The flashback happens while she is telling a story to an audience, and I want it to be like it is happening but not awkward until the end when she starts to cry at the end and realizes that it was a memory and she is still in front of the audience. Would it be italicized there? Would I even need it to be in the dialogue even if she is telling it?

I'd do it as italics.

Sorry Springs, but going to use your example again, it is a good one. here. This has a scene at the beginning where the PoV has a vision of the future, rather than the past, but same principle applies.

Also, sometimes you just have no choice but to tell, rather than show, just don't go overboard on it or treat the reader like they can't understand anything without you explaining it to them.

No probs, WP :)
Fishii, somewhere, and someone who can do the thread linking tech (I haven't figured that out, if anyone wants to tell me I'd be delighted, there's a recent thread I started in GWD called internal thoughts which crossed over a bit to this and another one started by Hex called showing and telling - it's page 2 of the index -which crossed over to this as well.

Yes, that's them; anyone want to PM me and tell me how to do that? Tech idiot here....
Actually, if you just paste the link into your thread, you may get the whole URL appearing, or a meaningful name. I used to try to over type the URL-type link with the text that I wanted to be seen; sometimes this would work, sometimes the link was cut. :(

I only found out a few days ago** how to change the link name properly, which is to go to the advanced editing screen (which is the default if you're quoting another post), type in the text you want to represent the link (such as the famous this and here), select it and then click on the Insert Link ) which is the one with a picture of the earth with three links of a chain. Paste the URL in the field marked URL and click OK.

** - A long time ago, I'd seen someone say that using Insert Link would do the trick, but they didn't explain about selecting the text before inserting the URL.

Does anyone know how thick a dust cloud (in space) would have to be for it to disrupt communications? I need a natural phenomenon reason for transmissions to be blocked or effectively scrambled. It might be as simple as radio signal (or laser signal?) degradation, but I don't know enough about that, if it exists.

The distance is too far for effective communication, but the disruption has to make both sides think the other has ceased transmitting, or at least no longer cares about them.

Where on the forum should I post a question about writing and continuity?

There is a short story/novel chapter I'm writing where the Big Revelation answers the question of a character's super powers (are they real or is she drunk/drugged/delusional?). However, to fit into the proposed novel, it has to be at least the second chapter, and the Big Revelation has already been revealed in the first chapter.

I'll go into a bit more detail once I know where I should be posting said detail.
