Who would think such a thing?

No, not Davos either.

I'll give you a clue and say it's from Storm of Swords.

Being from ASOS makes me think Samwell. Jaime is also a slight possibility, but the words sound much more like Sam, and very much unlke Jaime.

I'm guessing that it was Jaime. (And as it's a guess, I have no idea of the time, place or context.)

You have it Imp, it was Sam. It was when they were all trying to get back to the wall and Sam thinks he's going to die from the cold and weariness. He thinks

"It will be warm under the snow, and if they speak of me they’ll have to say I died a man of the Night’s Watch. I did. I did. I did my duty. No one can say I forswore myself. I’m fat and I’m weak and I’m craven, but I did my duty."

Very shortly afterwards, he becomes Sam the Slayer!

Your turn, Imp.

Maybe he had forgotten, .................... he was stupid enough to forget most anything.

Pate at Oldtown? Also do the dots refer to a part you cut out or do the dots resemble a pause?

It wasn't Pate

the dots represent something I left out that would have made it way too easy. It's not a pause.

From the prologue in storm of swords? I cant remember his name though, but the brother who was organising Mormonts death?

Fully just did a scurry. Chett?

I think you're right southron sword: It was Chett thinking about Small Paul.
