Who would think such a thing?

This is a tricksy one. "Small, but she might serve" immediately conjures up an image of a girl. But I think it might refer to a ship. There are at least six non-Greyjoy POVs where people are looking at ships.... I'll guess, Quentyn.

Imp, by the way I was on IMDB yesterday and noticed that the little girl from Mary Poppins is Roy Dotrice's daughter!

Okay... but which time did Jon have that thought? North of the Wall, with Ygritte and the raiders, before he took his vows, when he was ordered by Janos to assassinate Mance, or after Stannis' arrival? It just seemed he had so many chances...

Okay... here's a thought... and I'll give you a bit of context since it is so short. This thought is the very first thought (first person, non-spoken, and italicized thought) of one of the books in ASOIAF.

Imp, that was a great guess. In fact, it's such a great guess that I had to check ACOK just to be sure. Cressen's first thought is "Such folly." His third thought is a single word... "princess." Wow! You were very close. But....

jules is correct. "A princess" was the very first thought from the very first book.
