Re: Discussion September 2011 Writing Challenge

Either he no longer exists (probably a time travel thing) or he's fallen foul of a rule...

Re: Discussion September 2011 Writing Challenge

Oh my goodness, that was one of the "two" I was referring to, but now it's gone! I wondered, actually, why I couldn't see it when I was in my reply screen to post mine, and mosaix was the last entry showing. I guess that's why! Too many words?

As an aside, I went back and counted, and to my surprise I only find 5 entries that I don't consider to be SF or F. I thought the count was higher, from my ongoing impressions. If I count Perp's own impression of his story, it would be 6. They are all good stories, regardless.

Still nothing. :p I'm at least trying to come out of this blue funk I'm in and think something up, but a hill of moldy beans is what I wish I had with this one. :p

Re: Discussion September 2011 Writing Challenge

My story would also be counted amongst the non SF or fantasy stories this month. I was trying to get into a zombie 'shoot em up' scene, but 75 words doesn't give much to play with. In fact it's quite difficult! :)

Re: Discussion September 2011 Writing Challenge

For some reason I'm unable to edit my September entry. Can I submit a second (edited version) of the original? The current one doesn't really have much of a sci-fi feel to it.

In short, no. When something is posted you have a short edit window, and then only a mod can mod it.

But, in the challenge, even a mod wouldn't dare (he looks round anxiously in case revealed secrets will mandate his elimination rather than merely get him shouted at this time). I would never change my own, let alone anyone else's, and I know other members of the fraternity have muttered about "posting too early, genius level idea that crept in two hours after" – it's against the very spirit of the challenge. After the voting is done, when the congratulations are in full swing, you can post your alternative version here in discussion for – well, discussion, I suppose, but until then, posted is posted.

Re: Discussion September 2011 Writing Challenge

Unfortunately, once a story is entered it can't be edited (unless it is just moments after posting) this is mainly a feature of the Chrons, I think only Mods can edits posts after about 5 mins post posting.

If I read it right, Dusty has given us a very dark entry, and quite an adult theme (maybe my twisted mind is reading too much into it, but it seemed like some untoward was going to happen in the night!!!!)

Lots of great entries so far this month, its gonna be a tough month to vote, I'm liking how there is so much scope this week, with a theme that allows alot of interpretation it has given rise to many wonderful 'takes' on the theme. :)

Oops, just saw that Chris replied before me!

Re: Discussion September 2011 Writing Challenge

You can usually edit posts for an hour after the original posting. If you do so in the first ten minutes, no-one but you will know, unless they happen to have seen the original and noticed the change(s). Editing between then and the end of that hour will produce a 'reason for edit' message - see TDZ's last post before this one for an example of this - at the bottom of the post.

Thanks TDZ, you obviously did not count it in the first place - on the other hand I figured mine could be considered it was outside of the genre, but in my head it wasn't.

If that makes any sense at all.

And no one wants to rummage around inside my head.

Honest

What's that? Haven't I got some comments to catch up with....

Re: Discussion September 2011 Writing Challenge

Gosh, I hope mine isn't among those folk can't see the fantasy conenction, eek. I admit I did remove one very clear word when I did my cuts, down from 165words mind, and now I'm second guessing. *sigh*

It is a difficult challenge sometimes, but the challenge is what makes it so fun!

Re: Discussion September 2011 Writing Challenge

When I did my run through, BookStop, I did not include yours, I felt it could quite easily be SF or Fantasy...

Re: Discussion September 2011 Writing Challenge

Ah good, thanks, PM. Always makes one wonder if the clarity of the words are only in one's head :D

Myself, I've only spotted possibly 3 where I'm having trouble seeing the SFF connection. Still good stories though, so worth my read for sure!

Re: Discussion September 2011 Writing Challenge

I said that last night. This is this morning. There is a difference that I had nothing when I said that, Nix.

And I know mine isn't all that much, but it fits the categories.

Gosh, and I thought I had managed to avoid the darkness this time, for a change! :D

Re: Discussion September 2011 Writing Challenge

Love TDZ's! Second entry in the comp's history with a horny unicorn? Wins best line ever. (I'll let you guess which line.)
