Re: Discussion thread -- Three Hundred Word Writing Challenge #3

You're right. This is not the time for either of us to be writing up lists or making decisions.

Have you ever tried Zinc for a cold? It really works, if you start taking it at the first signs of a cold ... or it usually works. The last cold I had was resistant, but every other time it's been effective.

In my case, I started taking the antihistamine for a rash and then developed the cold today on top of it.

Re: Discussion thread -- Three Hundred Word Writing Challenge #3

BTW looking at my votes, can I have a visa to Australia? somewhere without spiders if possible? :D

Not much chance of that. If poisonous, venemous, dangerous or deadly are things you don't like in an animal, stay away.

Re: Discussion thread -- Three Hundred Word Writing Challenge #3

Ok, no Benadryl in my bloodstream at the moment, so I managed to come up with a shortlist, a shorter list, and some *votes*.

I had to leave out some stories I loved in the interest of not having a shortlist consisting of half the stories in the challenge -- literally half! That wasn't quite short enough to qualify as a shortlist, so some ruthless pruning ensued, and here are the results.

Talysia -- Devotion
The Spurring Platty -- One Dastardly Plan
*Hex -- Picnic in a Graveyard*
Highlander -- Birth
*HoopyFrood -- Snake Eyes*
*alchemist -- Cast a Cold Eye*
Parson -- The Forgotten Angel
Moonbat -- We are not A-mused
Boneman -- Looking Back
The Judge -- ...tears
Teresa Edgerton -- Forever After
mosaix -- When a Restraining Order Just Isn't Enough

Boneman, if only I could have had one more vote, but alas!

Re: Discussion thread -- Three Hundred Word Writing Challenge #3

Ugh, colds. Managed to pick one up myself. I thought I had avoided the one going around the office, but alas...

But wow, a vote! Thank yoooou!

Re: Discussion thread -- Three Hundred Word Writing Challenge #3

Thank you so much for the vote, TDZ! hope the zinc is working.

And thanks for the mention, Moonbat. I really appreciate it.

There are four leaders! This is really exciting.

Re: Discussion thread -- Three Hundred Word Writing Challenge #3

Dusty Zebra thanks for the shorter listing it makes me feel great... I was going to say "after a hard day" but the day is not done yet and it is nearly 9 pm. (sigh!)

Re: Discussion thread -- Three Hundred Word Writing Challenge #3

Thank you for the vote, Nixie, and thanks to TDZ for the honourable mention. What a lovely surprise!:)

Re: Discussion thread -- Three Hundred Word Writing Challenge #3

Nixie, thank you so much for the vote! And TDZ for the more than shorter shortlisting mention...

It just gets harder choosing every month, which shows what a great Challenge this is, as the standard and inventiveness just goes up and up. Great work everybody - there isn't a bad story in the whole lot.:):)

Re: Discussion thread -- Three Hundred Word Writing Challenge #3

Just back from my short break and noticed another "shorter" list mention by TDZ - Woo-Hoo! - really pleased at that. Always happy to get picked out even if not in the final three!

Now gotta start reading them all so I can get the votes in...

Re: Discussion thread -- Three Hundred Word Writing Challenge #3

As always there were many excellent stories and it was very difficult to choose. Amongst others, I enjoyed stories by Springs1971, The Spurring Platty, paranoid marvin, and TDZ.

But my votes went to...

Harebrain
Ashcroft
Culhwch

Re: Discussion thread -- Three Hundred Word Writing Challenge #3

Thanks for the vote, alchemist! Much appreciated!

I really need to set aside a chunk of time to read these through again and vote...

Thanks so much, Alchemist. I'm really pleased by the popularity of this short story, so much so that I don't particularly care if I win or not; I'm just happy that numerous people enjoyed it enough to vote for it.

Re: Discussion thread -- Three Hundred Word Writing Challenge #3

Add my name to the list of those under the weather.
The doctor told me I have " a cute sinusitis".
Don't think it was meant as a compliment.

Thanks hopewrites, Moonbat, and springs (one of the resident arachnophobes!) for the votes!

** off for more rest and plenty of liquids **

Re: Discussion thread -- Three Hundred Word Writing Challenge #3

sorry to hear your unwell :( sending you wishes of fluffy pillows and quiet neighbors.

Re: Discussion thread -- Three Hundred Word Writing Challenge #3

Hope you feel better soon, SP, get yourself dosed up.

You're very welcome for the vote, it was the one - how to put it? - I couldn't get out of my mind! Plus when I read it again, I enjoyed it just as much. :D

Re: Discussion thread -- Three Hundred Word Writing Challenge #3

I forgot to say earlier, when I put my votes up, thanks DustyZebra! And thanks Aun Doorback too. I've now smashed my best 300 word performance record.
