Well, technically this is my 2001st post, but I just thought I'd say I've followed tradition and posted something for critique.

For anyone who is interested it is the full, original version of this months 300 word entry, Diadne

My brain has failed me completely! I totally forgot about the 300 word challenge, and didn't vote in the original round. Sorry!

For the tiebreaker though, I finally pulled my socks up this morning. I'd read the final 4 the other day and they are all brilliant. I really enjoyed TSP's - lovely touch of humour. However, one of them just stayed with me, and it was Alchemist's entry. Evocative and haunting. Fabulous.

Excellent, SF. Thank you so much :)

And so it creeps towards a four-way tie again. I can't help feeling the four of us should set up our own support group, or at least go for beers.

Even those in the tie break are split evenly in their voting:
  • mosaix has voted for The Spurring Platty
  • TheDustyZebra has voted for alchemist
  • alchemist has voted for TheDustyZebra
  • The Spurring Platty has voted for mosaix

:D SF, if you'd voted in the original round (and for Alchemist) there'd have been no need for the tie-breaker.

There you go -- proof that every vote counts! :D

Ursa, that's funny, I was just looking at that and then came here and you had it all listed out.

Now I'm just wondering, can we get somebody to fix the "chellenge" in the tie-breaker poll thread, before it drives me completely around the bend?

I've been offline for a while so not had chance to check the site for a while. It was a pleasant shock to login and find I had 2 votes for my entry, didn't expect any tbh! Thanks to Perpetual man and Springs for that, much appreciated :)

2 of my original votes are in this tie break, so it was difficult to choose, in the end I had to vote Alchemist, it got more of an emotional reaction from me.

And I thought that was the way they spelled it in Morningside! (posh district of Edinburgh).

Also whilst the Edinburgh bypass was being built past Baberton (another Edinburgh district), the road signs declared that the work being carried on the "Bebberton to..." (sic) section may cause some disruption to local traffic...

Finally I had also heard years ago that the Morningside ladies thought sex was what the coal was brought it with... ;)

It's apparently how they spell it in the Antipodes.

However, we should all thank Culhwch for posting the poll. For some reason the thread didn't want to be posted and was fighting back.

I thought it was just that posh, upperclass accent that says things like, "old gel" and all that. :)

I thought there was supposed to be no critiquing in the challenge threads - what's all this picking on my spelling about, hey?

Congrats, TDZ! You nabbed my vote in the tie-breaker, as you only just missed out in the first round for me!

Oh my goodness, thank you so much, guys! Thank you for all the votes, pre- and post-tie-breaker; I don't know what to say! I'm honored to be among such fabulous stories, and I appreciate all the votes of confidence as I embark upon my "year of getting published".

At least I don't have to come up with a theme this time! :)

Congrats Dusty One, much deserved, but really stiff competition. Great jobs all around.

Congratulations, TDZ!:)

(And, before I forget again, a big thank you to Cul for the vote in the main contest - I can't believe I missed it until now.)

Congratulations TDZ, what an epic battle and a well deserved win, even if everyone's nerves have been shredded (And if it was bad for us making the votes, what it can have been like for the final four I don't want to know!)
