Re: Discussion October SEVENTY-FIVE WORD WRITING CHALLENGE

Well, here are the finalists

Perp:
High Eight
Mosaix:
Ursa:
TJ:

'Bathed in sweat' did it for me I'm afraid.

Re: Discussion October SEVENTY-FIVE WORD WRITING CHALLENGE

22!!! Crimeny! I've just done a first run through and jotted down every story that appealed to me and putting aside the obvious that they all do on some level, I was really strict and ended up with 22 entries. on. my. short. list.

Luck you! My first read through the tales gave me 30! But I have now narrowed it down to a round dozen - they are:-

Karn Maeshalanadae
Southron Sword
Starbeast
Springs 1971
Flugel Meister
Talysia
Telford
Perpetual Man
Quokka
Alchemist
Mosaix
Mike 1366

Now for the real nightmare - to pick ONE of them, all great stories.

Oh and BTW thanks for the short list mention Starbeast!

Re: Discussion October SEVENTY-FIVE WORD WRITING CHALLENGE

Thanks for the vote Phoenix and for making your shortlist Perp.

This month's entry was from the heart straight into print, no re-writing or polishing. I'm not sure I could have to be honest.

Re: Discussion October SEVENTY-FIVE WORD WRITING CHALLENGE

Some good entries this month. Perp , very clever, yes I liked that one. Chrispenycate, an excellent poem and a brilliant title.Starbeast very well written, I'm glad you're a regular contributor now.

Simply can't look past Mosaix however; very Poe-esque I thought. Trapped for eons in a seales capsule with only myself for company? Could it possibly get any more horrifying than that?

Re: Discussion October SEVENTY-FIVE WORD WRITING CHALLENGE

More mentions :). Many thanks, Perp, Starbeast, TEIN and Highlander.

Edit: Just noticed Paranoid Marvin's post above. A vote? Many thanks PM.

Re: Discussion October SEVENTY-FIVE WORD WRITING CHALLENGE

Oooh, a vote! Thanks, TEiN -- I'll have to bathe everyone in sweat from now on.

Thanks for the mention, PM!

I've not even started to think about a shortlist yet. And I've still to write my 300 worder. Yikes. Where has the month gone?

Re: Discussion October SEVENTY-FIVE WORD WRITING CHALLENGE

Cheers Starbeast and Highlander for the shortlisting. I probably didn't put enough effort into this months challenge. I just wrote the first thing I could think of. (I'm studying at Uni, it's taking a lot of my time)

Re: Discussion October SEVENTY-FIVE WORD WRITING CHALLENGE

Thanks for the short-short listing Perp.

It's much appreciated.

Re: Discussion October SEVENTY-FIVE WORD WRITING CHALLENGE

Many thanks for the shortlistings, and a special thank you to TE for the vote! I think this may qualify as my best month yet. I can still see Perp's back, but I fear at some point he'll throw it up a gear and leave me in his dust.

Re: Discussion October SEVENTY-FIVE WORD WRITING CHALLENGE

Oh, wow - more shortlistings. And votes! TWO votes!:eek: Thanks a million to Perp and EndisNigh for the shortlistings and two million to Quokka and Pyan for the votes!

I feel really warm inside now. :)

(If just a little worried about how I can maintain the standard......)

Hey, thanks for the mention. :) It was nice. I wasn't even expecting it, it could have been a lot stronger.

Re: Discussion October SEVENTY-FIVE WORD WRITING CHALLENGE

Starbeast very well written, I'm glad you're a regular contributor now.

Thank you Paranoid Marvin, I'm having with it too. I also enjoyed your tale, it was very sad, as if quoting a friend who lost their father.

My inspiration came from a "house centipede" that I watched killing and eating it's prey in my basement.

Re: Discussion October SEVENTY-FIVE WORD WRITING CHALLENGE

Starbeast and Highlander thank you so much for the mentions. Considering the company you dropped me in with I'm most honored. Oh, and Varangian, thanks for the kinds words. T.

Re: Discussion October SEVENTY-FIVE WORD WRITING CHALLENGE

Perpetual Man and Starbeast made my day after being gone at a seminar. Good seminar, bad day for the diet, so mentions went down real smooth.

-----------

Parson leaves for a while checks the voting progress and discovers... A vote from Starbeast! My day is officially made! Thanks Starbeast.

Ok, finally got the list together and figured out what to do! As usual, the shortlist, the shorter list, and, though I may get beat about the head for it, the *vote* which just had to go to the one that still scares the you-know-what out of me every time I read it, or, indeed, even think about it.

Culhwch -- The Nightmare Merchant
Encinalien -- One Hallows Eve a Nightmare
reiver33 -- Fuseli Rules
Chel -- No Rest for the Wicked
Parson -- Splash Down
Talysia -- Dream Demon
Harebrain -- The Insertionist
Boneman -- Another Night at the Office
TEIN -- Dreams Within Dreams
Glen -- (untitled)
Moonbat -- Wake Up
Perpetual Man -- Don't Read This
alchemist -- Five and a Half Days
High Eight -- Everywhere You Go
*RSliwinski -- Stuck in the Animal Body*
mosaix -- Death is Not an Option
Ursa Major -- Nine Tenths of the Law
The Judge -- Albtraum

Re: Discussion October SEVENTY-FIVE WORD WRITING CHALLENGE

A quick dash into the Chrons this morning, to say thanks for all the mentions/shortlistings:
Starbeast, TEiN, Highlander, PM and TDZ. I don't think I've had so many honourable mentions! Really made my morning, so thank you all kindly.

Cul - I can feel your breath on my neck, I reckon you'll zip by in a moment.

And over night I've whittled it down to a top ten:

I thought I'd try and put why:

Cul - The idea of someone selling nightmares, but living his own was just sublime.
Reiver33 - A good story but the words 'Hypnagogic hallucinations...pharmaceuticals' just stuck in my head.
Hope - There was just something about someone reclaiming their life that appealed to me.
Parson - Still makes me grin when I read it, or even think about it.
Nixie - A dream capable of changing a tyrants mind, great idea.
TEiN - Just loved the concept, a spiral feel to it.
Glen - Just the feeling and the sense of loneliness it had a real feel to it.
Alchemist - The serious, then twist to humour at the end.
anhalo - the cold sterile feel of life came across so well.
TJ - It stuck in my head. Okay?

And having done that little list as I found it very helpful as I realised the ones I did not need to look up make it to the final cut. (they're the ones in bold), the fantastic four if you will.

Back to work mulling it over as I do whatever I should be doing.

Re: Discussion October SEVENTY-FIVE WORD WRITING CHALLENGE

I keep telling myself I should post up a short review of/for those I shortlisted. But its crazy-o-clock at night where I am so I promise I'll do it tomorrow after art and shopping.

Re: Discussion October SEVENTY-FIVE WORD WRITING CHALLENGE

Thanks for the short-short listing Perp.

It's much appreciated.

The first line should have read:
Thanks for the short-short listing TEIN.

Sorry, Perp and TEIN, but yesterday was a rather hectic and exhausting day.

It's okay Ursa, I did short list you in my original 22 yesterday so I didn't notice
