Re: Discussion October SEVENTY-FIVE WORD WRITING CHALLENGE

Yes, I wasn't meaning to critique here. I phrased what I said badly.

I'd much rather have not said anything, but after a couple nights of poor sleep mixed with a caffeine high from Pepsi I'm not thinking straight.

As I did say, though, it was a good entry with a great atmosphere. I'm being honest about my words on that.

Re: Discussion October SEVENTY-FIVE WORD WRITING CHALLENGE

Now managed to get back to the voting. Of the final twelve I mentioned earlier (and noted again below), I have re-read them again and I have eventually picked my vote…

Karn Maeshalanadae
Southron Sword
Starbeast
Springs 1971
Flugel Meister
Talysia
Telford
Perpetual Man
Quokka
Alchemist
Mosaix
Mike 1366

First the very honourable mentions (short short list) are those in BOLD above. Great tales that all haunt me still.

And the winner is…

PERPETUAL MAN !!

Re: Discussion October SEVENTY-FIVE WORD WRITING CHALLENGE

Thanks for the review, hopewrites. Looks like PMan has some competition. And thanks to anyone who gave me a mention/shortlisting.

It's all very exciting in the voting now...

Re: Discussion October SEVENTY-FIVE WORD WRITING CHALLENGE

hopewrites: THANK YOU! :D I'm always amazed that people manage to make me sound good.

People don't need to make you sound good little rodent; it should be clear by now that folks like what you write; which is the point of the exercise, no?

Re: Discussion October SEVENTY-FIVE WORD WRITING CHALLENGE

I'll second what Alchemist said. Hope, it's great to read other peoples reviews/comments of what has been written, doubly so for one of mine, because I don't often see that. So thanks, loved what you said. Thank you.

Highlander, thanks for the mention and the vote. A great way to end the day.

Re: Discussion October SEVENTY-FIVE WORD WRITING CHALLENGE

@ chris: way to marginalize my ability to make others sound good ;)

but seriously, i agree with you. and I agree with Mouse, its easy to loose sight of how far we have come because we are so busy toiling up the path.

@ mouse, perp, and alch: your very welcome :) I truly enjoy reading, and its nice to be able to share that enjoyment with those who give it to me.

Re: Discussion October SEVENTY-FIVE WORD WRITING CHALLENGE

Well I've voted. I would hope to be done with nightmares for a long time. Unless we write in the style of _____________ again!

short list:

Culhwch
Pyan
TheTomG
StormFeather
Dusty Zebra

Shorter list
The Spurring Platty
Perpetual Man

I voted for: Perpetual Man
(But don't read his story!!!)

Re: Discussion October SEVENTY-FIVE WORD WRITING CHALLENGE

Howdy,
My vote went to Pyan, there was a time when that was my life story, gave me chills.
Perp Man, sorry, I didn't read your story. ( I do what I am told )
R Sliwinski, some people want to blame everything on their parents.
Moonbat, thank you for the top 3 listing.

As I said before, I don't do lists, cuz I jest ain't no good at it.
Bob

Re: Discussion October SEVENTY-FIVE WORD WRITING CHALLENGE

Parson, many, many thanks for the vote and Bob, thanks for not reading the story.... (I think).

Re: Discussion October SEVENTY-FIVE WORD WRITING CHALLENGE

the short list was to big to list, but finally went for Pep.

Many thanks for the vote Nixie, greatly appreciated.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who is finding their 'short' lists getting bigger and bigger. The quality each month from everyone is just phenomenal. And the fact that new comers seem to be coming in at the same level is a bit scary actually.

I've just been looking through the 300 worders and it is just as bad (or good) with them.

Re: Discussion October SEVENTY-FIVE WORD WRITING CHALLENGE

Darn, nearly had my first vote there, I really need to do more to reel 'em in when I have them on the hook :p

Thanks for the great review there Hopewrites, to have my entry seriously considered alongside Perp's quality story is an honour :)

I've read and re-read the entries, a few times. Now I've finally settled on a shortlist, that was difficult with the quality on offer. Apologies to those who didn't make the list.

Karn Maeshalanadae - "You're late for tea, Alice"
Abernovo - Instinctual Response
Culhwch - The Nightmare Merchant
Phoenixthewriter - Nightmare
HareBrain - The Insertionist
TheEndisNigh - Dreams Within Dreams
Perpetual Man - Don't Read This
mosaix - Death is not an option

They were all really well written and it's hard to vote for just one, but Culhwch just pips everyone at the post, so there's my vote.

Re: Discussion October SEVENTY-FIVE WORD WRITING CHALLENGE

Aww, thanks, Parson! I hadn't expected anything, mentions or otherwise, this month -- just couldn't come up with anything I thought worthy. Stupid theme anyway. :D

*hugs*

Ooooh, eight each! We've not had a tie break for a while. Have we?

Re: Discussion October SEVENTY-FIVE WORD WRITING CHALLENGE

So why, as Pyan says, Do people not vote when they've entered the so**ing contest.

Is it some weird theory that if they vote, they have to vote for someone else so they have less chance of winning.

It boggles my mind I tell you , boggles it, boggles it 'ard.

Some of us are slow readers?
Really slow.

Re: Discussion October SEVENTY-FIVE WORD WRITING CHALLENGE

Have now voted - for Talysia

I couldn't help but picture the demon of the story visiting the Chrons and being as happy as a fox in a hen house. Not sure if that was the intent, but it left a wonderfully wicked image in my mind.
