Nice, Aun Doorback, I really enjoyed your story.

Got a good chuckle out of the need to "burn rubber" when infact it was a shopping trolley - a shopping trolley burning rubber would be something to see. :D

Some good, lite humour to it.

Yes, we typically have a big surge at the beginning, but this, I believe, is an exceptional number of stories so early in the month.

After the first ten days or so, the stories only trickle in. But with almost two weeks to go, even a trickle (plus the usual last minute entries) should obviously take us well over 50.

Is our record still 62 or have we broken that?

And I'll see about comments later, peeps. My niece had come down with another cold and I think she's passed it on...

According to my list (which I frustratingly don't have here) I seem to remember the record stands at 59 (see post 438 in the March 75 discussion; on my computer I'd have been able to link - oh, perhaps http://www.sffchronicles.co.uk/forum/1593484-post438.html)

Quick, distant hug to your niece.

I likes the last few entries, good humour shown. I had one picked for my vote, I'm not so sure now, anything that makes me giggle gets my attention!

Thanks for the comments all. I'm glad people liked the twist.

Haven't had chance to read the others yet, but judging from the comments here all the entries sound excellent.

I can see the voting being split this month, I have loads and loads to chose from and no idea what to do yet, and its still early days. I foresee lots of me dithering!

Choccoweeble: clearly an inner-monolog, hitting several parts of the grieving process in quick succession. What isn’t clear is if this person caused the death of the person they are mourning, and keeping that in question helps it along for me. If so how will they extract their vengeance? Will it be directed and the sociopolitical cause rather than the immediate cause of death? Or has she merely happened upon him in the street on her furtive way to/from her safe house and the vengeance she has planed is on the more immediate cause? I prefer the first, if only because it heightens her grief, and sends her out to do something that will actually catalyst some real change, where as the vigilante hunting of some petty thief doesn’t strike me as climactic enough.

choccoweeble: I've asked this question before; in a post-apocalyptic setting, would the last shreds of humanity go into a band of brothers state of mind, or would we revert to our darker, more carnal natures? It seems with this one you've gone the latter, but not where the narrator was concerned. Emotional and quite sad. I only hope the narrator is able to keep that promise.

CHOCCOWEEBLE: This captured that truth that human nature and emotions continue no matter what's happened. And the desperation that it was over a crust of bread.

Thanks all for the comments!! My biggest aim with writing is to make people feel – I love to convey emotion effectively. Looks like I’m on the right lines with this one – I know I have a long way to go but it’s nice to get some encouragement :-D

Probable record breaker; I've not submitted mine yet, and there are a number of Chronic last-minuters, and it only needs another four entries...

Don't you sometimes wish there were a few lousy entries where you could say "well, I don't have to consider that one."? Never seems to happen, though.

So, a record number of submissions and I'm far from my spread sheet, so almost none of the early ones have been premarked. This could well be a record difficult vote for me.

Spreadsheets!!

I'm an accountant and I'm not that organised - well Irish - organised is not usually a word associated with me. All I have to say Chrispenycate is - crikey!

To be fair however, as master of the records I'd know nothing without your help.

I have a suggestion. It is nearly impossible to vote for only one or 3 with so many stories. How about we have small "playoff." Once we break 50 stories we break the first 25 and second 25 stories into two separate groups where each person gets 3 votes in each bracket. The top 3 from both brackets are then voted for, with only 1 vote. Kinda like the short lists people do but more official. Sorry If this has been brought up but thought it might make this more managble.

Howdy,
My 2 cents worth, leave well enough alone. There are many of us that are nervous wrecks the way it is, just waiting for a kind word or two, maybe a vote. I have not recovered from the tiebreaker in Feb, how would We ever make it through a "process" to get to the final winner.

I know** most people enter during the early part of the month, but all that structured voting would eat up the days, particularly if there was also a tiebreak (or more than one tiebreak), not to mention create a lot of extra work for everyone, including me.

** - At least they have done this month.

Blimey! (That's for the proper English among us:D) You stay away for a few days to get Easter stuff done, and what an amazing amount of stories develop!!!

So far I have to think that Mouse and Perpetual Man are in the running for short listing, and who knows how many others. My head is swimming after reading all those entries and skimming (and I do mean skimming!!) all this conversation about the stories.

I've written mine. And once again it looks like my mind goes where no one else's does. Sigh! Well maybe its original?

I have enough problems picking one, I think my head would go off in a dithering explosion if I had to pick three. I accept your very good intentions Arkose, very nice of you.
