Why did I join on that day?

On Tuesday, I would have beaten Lieutenant Cerulean to the job; by Thursday, the General would have been safely retired. But no, I had to join on Wednesday, Scarlet’s last day. He wasn't passing the torch to me. That was just fantasy.

“Incoming call.”

Where had I put my damned hat?

The Pursuit Vehicle’s speaker declared loudly: “Cloudbase calling Captain Pantone 18-2120.”

The shame of it….
