The Hobbit could become a Trilogy

They are certainly doing all they can to make this into a franchise. They can count on Tolkien fans seeing it no matter what, and many other moviegoers as well. I was going to ask if they're going to attempt to film The Silmarillion next, but apparently it's already being discussed. I can't post links yet, but it's easy to find if you Google it.

I should live so long....

Really, the story ain't that big. When I was 8 or ten years old, I read it over just a few hours. I could read it aloud, to my kids, in 3 bed-times. I re-read it, just a year or two ago in one sitting.

Contrasted with the LOTR trilogy; which ran 14 hours, in the extended DVD versions, and had plenty of source material, and more...

It's hard for me to imaging how anyone could possibly draw 3 movies out of the little Bilbo adventure.

I wish I could read as fast as you! I totally agree, the story isn't big enough to hold up three films. Especially when we know it went from one, to two, to three. Which makes it a last minute decision on Jackson's part, which is never good. I think this is why he is shooting in 3D to trick viewers into forgetting there is less story to take in.
