Many thanks to Perpetual Man for the kind and perceptive review. It is a marvelous task you take on, to give all entrants a thoughtful recognition; much appreciated.

Everything is happening at once, this week. I haven't time for such a learned and critical review of all this month's entries. So I'm winging it:

Everybody is on my long-short list.

Hare Brain's doggerell cracked my up on first sight, and made me laugh again tonight.

So, there's my vote.

Right, where to begin...

Many thanks for the mentions, short listings and positive comments to Parson, Ratsy, Abernovo, Phyrebrat and Grimbear.

And for the two additional votes since last I looked, to I think, Stormfeather and Starbeast.

If I've got it wrong or missed someone, then I apologize most profoundly.

Next up my shortlist (although it goes without saying that everyone was on the long one)

Springs
Karn
Stormcrow
Allmywires
PM
TDZ
Glen
HB
Teresa
Spellblade
HE
Aun
Ursa
TJ

And my final choice...

...will be forthcoming

I’ve really enjoyed reading through the stories. These are my favourites.

Kylara – Death of a Dragon
Paranoid marvin – Good night, Sweet Prince
Hex – Shoe-erly Not
Teresa Edgerton – Briar Rose

But my vote goes to Perpetual Man – Fairy Farewell.

And thank you, Parson, for the short listing. I’m so pleased you liked it.

Thanks for the short listing, StilLearning.

Thanks for the listing crystal haven I am so glad you enjoyed reading it!

(determines that all challenge entries shall consist of dragons in future)

So many good, diverse entries this month... great theme and great response, says I.

So: short list, Finalists (any of whom could have got my vote - they were all brilliant and it was almost impossible to choose between them!) and *Winner

Abernovo
Springs
StilLearning
Hex
NIXIE - the poignancy of this perfect unrequited love is wonderful...
MOSAIX - Red Riding Hood never seemed as good as this... the last line is the best I've seen.
Perpetual Man - Hopelessly true, and incredibly moving.
*Parson* - the X-Caliber weapon did it for me... that and Arthur truly not knowing.
Aun Doorback
Moonbat - wonderful take on natural elements, and tying them together.

Well done everyone!

Boneman, thanks for the shot listing, and Crystal thanks so much for the vote, I can't remember the last time I has so many.

I've found it very hard making a decision this month simply because every thing is so good. I've vacillated from one to another, but in the end I kept chuckling and going back to Harebrain's little ditty.

So there we go. (I don't think I have ever voted this late before!)

Gasp! votes?! Thanks so much Boneman and Johnny Jet. I am so glad you liked the story!!

Not long left to vote; and enough potential voters to change everything.

According to my torturous and fallible list, submitted but not yet voted:-
allmywires, booksforlunch, Culhwch, Flugel Meister, HareBrain, James Coote, Kiffinyjean, kshRox, Moonbat, reiver33, Scott R. Forshaw, stormcrow, Teresa Edgerton, The Judge, The Spurring Platty, Tisiphone and Ursa major.

Against that:- alchemist, Mouse and StormFeather are marked as having voted without having an entry to defend; applause, please.

Thanks Aber, for the shortlist, and more to GrimB. for a second vote.
