Wow! What a way to start the day.

Outside the rain is pouring down, we are going out for the day in it, and yet I turn on the computer and I feel asa though the sun is shining!

If any of the Fair Folk are looking in on us today, they are probably happy to hae retired to the other world.

Thanks once again to everyone who voted for me and for all those mentions, it really helped turn the month around.

Starbeast - I did wonder if anyone would get the Sidhe - (well I knew there were one or two who would), but I am glad it all clicked into place when you looked it up.


Now though I'm in a bit of a quandary: A while back a certain member of this group set us a challenge that floored everyone. It was in many ways the one that stretched us the most but also one of the hardest. Afterwards everyone was really pleased with themselves, while there was a good deal of good natured grumbling about never voting for that particularly denizen again.

For some reason someone else (I forget who) commentd on the terror of what would be presented to you should Perp ever win, and I decided there and then that should I ever win the challenge I would do something straightforward and simple that everyone would love...

But... I'm here and I'm thinking we have not had a real jaw clenching, fear inducing challenge for quite a while...

I shall have to have a little think...

Strangely out of nowhere ray guns and aliens seems to have entered my head.)

Go Perp! Congrats! I got sidhe, and knew how to pronounce it and everything* but then I do live within a reasonable distance to Stonehenge so...


*this may not seem like a big achievement to some of you, but coming from a thickie like me...

Ursa, yours was nice, it was a play on beauty & the beast? Im not sure if Azor is a reference or not.

As you guessed, my entry was based on Beauty and the Beast.

As for Azor.... I knew that, given the context, most people would recognise the beauty's name, Belle, but I wasn't sure what to call the beast. Wikipedia came to the rescue, as it mentioned an opera (by the Belgian composer, André Grétry), Zémire et Azor. (Zémire is the beauty.)

My story was already about plastic surgery (which may or may not have magical elements: this is a fairy story), which could be seen as a sort of rebirth. And as a fan of the A Song of Ice and Fire books, where there's a prophecy concerning "Azor Ahai Reborn", I simply couldn't resist.

I got TJ's initials so I pat myself on the back. I did not have anything hidden in my yarn I'm afraid, although the title comes from a line from a sad old song called In The Gloaming ('gloaming' is one of my favourite words).
