World Fantasy convention 2013

Well it cannot be worse than WorldCon in Reno, (even if I did meet Patrick Rothfuss) and I'm looking forward to it. Selfishly, it only takes me 20 minutes to get to Brighton...:)

Oooh, KMQ - you're not North of it are you?

I only went to WFC once, many years ago with it was in Arizona, but I had a wonderful time. It's not like WorldCon where you end up wandering through a vast venue trying to locate the panels you want to see and failing to find the friends you hoped to meet. It's much more intimate.

But they limit the number of members, so if you want to go, sign up early!

Before reading anything I saw the picture and thought 'nice fantasy image'. Then I realised that it was the Brighton Pavilion.

At least it's plenty of time to plan. I'd like to go, so I'll see about sorting a trip out. What's the journey like from London?

What's the journey like from Edinburgh...?

I feel I ought to start going to these things and if some people from the Chrons will let me cling to them rather than standing in a corner pretending to be a pot plant, then maybe this is the one...

(damn that they considered Edinburgh and then didn't go for it!)

@HareBrain -- you underestimate my ability to come up with excuses ;p

But you could be west or east...

Or sleeping rough on the beach. Many writers do.

Last time I was in the Hotel Metrople, The Who were playing...

Last time I was in the Metropole, I had to give a speech. I think they're still mopping up the perspiration.

Flight to Gatwick, then a direct train line. No excuse now ... bwahahaha.

Dead easy to get to for us celts (well as easy as anything not in the frozen north) - I'd be in. (although I'm a lot shyer in real life and might have to be sedated before meeting anyone). I'll bring a paper bag and hide.

Paper bags is it? I'll go and get mine today. Wouldn't want to be the only one pretending to be a pot plant.

I suppose I could venture east, I very rarely do. Almost four hours away for me, but if people can manage it from further afield then I guess I have no excuse. I'm going to Bristol Con this year though, so might not be able to afford two.

Just as well WFC2013 is being held in 2013, then. :)

(Though you may have a point if one has to book early and pay when booking.)

Looks good, I have family in Brighton so could accidentally  end up at the con whilst I visit them...although I would have to take my own food, they are very much a curry family...

I know I'm daft sometimes, but I did get that 2013 meant next year. ;)

Oh Lordy I'm booked - small matter of the travel which I hate, accomodation, and leaving my kids for four days which I have never done (and one of them will be a teenager, so thats how long we're talking). Bring sedatives. :D

Wine's a sedative, right? I'll bring wine.

I'm booked too. Now I have to jitter with excitement for 15 months (and perfect my pot plant outfit).

Much wine? I am bagging the aloe Vera outfit in order to feel calmmmmmm.... Seriously though almost as exciting - hex and springs meeting! Is Brighton ready? Is anywhere... ?There could be a seriously weird novel here (involving pot plants and sauvignon) :D

For the average pleb non-agent, non-published-writer, non-publisher (ie. me), what kind of things happen here? From the site, it looks like more of an event for industry insiders than one that Joe SF-fan would enjoy. Not that I wouldn't absolutely love to hang out with all the folks from the Chrons, but I would like to be able to at least pretend that I was going to learn something, or better myself in some way.

Bear in mind that I've only been to one Con, and that was in Dublin in 1998.

(Note: of course, Hex and Springs will be published authors by next October)
