For the second month - and with no apologies for that, my vote goes to ...

Phyrebrat for the excellent Erwin's Catch 22. Very clever - I see a sitcom! I couldn't have seen that ending coming. Wedgwood too - that was the real killer image for me - adds a lovely sense of reality.:D

I really can't get down to a shortlist, so step forward my faves:

ratsy, Hex, Memory Tale, reiver33, Nixie, Dante Di Benedetto
Brev, crystal haven, Kylara, Aun Doorback, James Coote, Abernovo

...and nicely done everyone, I've laughed a lot!!:)

And my vote went to the one that made me laugh out loud

Feed me tv and their sulky dinosaur

Eee! Thank you :)

Found it very hard to choose - reiver33, Glen, springs, Starbeast, Highlander, and Ursa all get special mention in my book but I finally plumped for ratsy. Was great fun reading through them all, well done everyone.

Bowler 1, Thanks for the mention. --- At least there was no scratch and smell involved. :p

I should vote sometime tomorrow. I'm leaving for a 3 day conference and my internet time and ability might be limited.

I love the challenges from left field, they seem to bring the best writing out in people! I got at least a snigger out of all of them, but here are my top five, vote in bold.

DiplomaticFaux Pas – Abernovo

How theFlugertz got their groove back – ratsy

The joys ofshopping – Kylara

The PostPrandial Sound of Thunder – Glen

Incident at Galactic Grill and GrogSpace Pub -- Starbeast

Hi all - I haven't been around much this month and I couldn't get any inspiration for this challenge. I'll have another go (hopefully) in October.

I have voted this month though and my vote goes to Luiglin's 'Be careful what You Eat'.

The short list:

Abernovo, “Diplomatic Faux Pas”: The idea of a small segment of dinosaurs that were rescued and feel like we’re just keeping the Earth warm for them. It tickled me

Springs, “THUMBS! THUMBS! OH CRUMBS…”: Base ten math is a harsh mistress

Luiglin, “Be careful about what you eat”: Something about the pettiness needed to blow up the Earth always got me laughing

Memory Tale, “Military Intelligence”: I do enjoy a well-crafted pun

Dante DiBenedetto, “Faux Maw”: I once worked with a girl who didn’t understand that when I said “I dream of a future without children” I was being sarcastic

Harebrain, “Nuts”: The triviality and pettiness of total global destruction is ripe for comedy. Delightful

Phyrebrat, “Erwin's Catch 22”: For quite possibly the nerdiest entry this month

Perpetual Man, “The Dinosaurs”: Now I’m waiting for Planet of the Shopping Trolleys (You maniacs! You blew it up! Damn you! Damn you all to hell!)

Ursa Major, “Dangers of Drink, Number 42: Going Off Your Trolley”: Another well-crafted punchline

Lots of dry humor this month. My kind of humor.

The vote goes to Abernovo, but it was a very tough choice.

Thank you very much for the vote, Luiglin -- good to see we have the same cultural frame of reference (I kept hearing Vincent Price too)

Thanks for the mentions, Bowler1 (if I'm not being presumptuous), FeedMeTV and EricWard. :)

And thanks for the review, Perp. :)

Lots or great stuff here. I had a rather long Long List. But, after much pondering and mental flailing, I ended up with the following Short List:

1. How the Flugertz got their groove back - ratsy
2. For One Night Only! - reiver33
3. Monster Sale - paranoid marvin
4. Nuts - HareBrain
5. Extinction - Grinnel
6. Consumer Goods - crystal haven
7. Erwin’s Catch 22 - Phyrebrat
8. In the Beginning - FeedMeTV
9. Where's my other liquorice allsort? - Aun Doorback
10. Famous Last Words - Highlander

And my favorite (due to its high level of quirkiness -- I'm into quirkiness): Where's my other liquorice allsort? - Aun Doorback

Congratulations to all!

Thanks to springs, stormcrow and StilLearning for the mentions. And thank you loads to EricWard for the vote. :)

Thank you very much for the shortlists and mentions johnnyjet, stormcrow and StilLearning!

This was an interesting month and it was cool to see everyone's interpretation of the subject.

And a million thanks to FeedmeTV for the vote...i will be sure to send an intergalactic message to the Flugertz and let them know you like their pranks.

I did hope to get the comments finished today, and have failed dismally unless I get a bit of time tonight...

Thanks to Eric for the mention, I really did not expect to get any mentions so I'm a happy camper.

Hopefully I'll be back on track tomorrow!

After reading through all the stories, here is my long list and short list.

Glen
Abernovo
Springs
MemoryTale
Starbeast
Bowler1
Johnnyjet
Ursa major
Boneman

My short list:
Dante DiBenedetto – Faux Maw
Phyrebrat – Erwin’s Catch 22

And my vote: Paranoid Marvin – Monster Sale

Thank you for the short listing, Springs, and Johnnyjet, and the mention, Bowler, and Stormcrow.

And thank you very much for the vote, Rosethorn. I’m really pleased you enjoyed my story. I see you have recently joined the forum, so a big Welcome.

My vote went to Alchemist's Alien Vs Predator - The last line really tickled me and made me laugh like a drain.

I also liked Ratsy's How The Flugertz Got Their Groove Back and Scott R. Forshaw's Interdimensional Indignation.

I must admit to feeling a bit dense this month in that I did not understand some of the stories. That seems like a silly thing to say when the genre included humour but I read some a few times before contriving a meaning to them which may not have been there. I think that could be down to cultural references, or my being rather thinly-read in the Sci-Fi area.

Also, it feels a bit mean-spirited making judgements on whether you think something is funny or not! I thought we were meant to experience the challenge in the writing, not the voting :D

Stormcrow, thanks for your vote (again!). When voting is finished I should share something about my story's origins.

Thanks also to Crystal Haven, Johnnyjet and EricWard for the mentions. Eric, I take your comment as a massive compliment! Thank you! Can I join the Sheldon Cooper club?
