Re: POLL -- SEPTEMBER 75 Word Challenge

I vote for Untitled by JoanDrake

Sorry about the above post (I wrote that on the voting poll since the voting buttons didn't appear on my phone) - that's spoilt the suspense!

I did indeed vote for JoanDrake. Loved the dry humour that took me by surprise. A great satirical anti-smoking campaign that brought a whole new theory to the extinction of the dinosaurs.

Alchemist was a finalist in my whittling down process. Glen, MemoryTale and Aun Doorback made the short-short list and quite a few others made my long-shortlist.

Great stories from a fun challenge.

P.S. thanks for the mentions Perpetual Man and Hex! :)

Brev -- you made me laugh out loud.

Thanks Hex, that's better than a vote. Glad you liked it.

Thanks also to Boneman, Scott R. Forshaw and stormcrow for the mentions. :)

I've had time to catch up, and have a shortish list...but it's a tough choice. I'm going to read them all again and decide on the vote tomorrow. :D

A little over a day left and not many votes in yet. Only about half the number of stories. (I haven't voted either, and I need to hop to it before I run out of time!)

Now convening, the third monthly meeting of the HareBrain fan club.... At least, I'm pretty sure that's where my vote has gone for three months now! And the shortlist, etc.:

springs -- Thumbs! Thumbs! Oh Crumbs....
Luiglin -- Be careful about what you eat
Hex -- The Spaceship 'Nevermore'
mosaix -- What Really Happened ...
MemoryTale -- Military Intelligence
reiver33 -- For One Night Only
*HareBrain -- Nuts*
Phyrebrat -- Erwin's Catch 22
Eric Ward -- The Interrogation
alchemist -- Alien Versus Predator
FeedMeTV -- In the Beginning
Ursa major -- Dangers of Drink, Number 42 ...
James Coote -- untitled
Grinnel -- Extinction

I found it interesting that all my shorter list stories and several of my shortlist were about "what really happened to the dinosaurs" in one way or another. Of course, there were a lot of those to choose from.

Oh, and thanks to DEO for the mention!

Shortlistaceratops:

crystal haven, Phyrebrat, Culhwch, TheDustyZebra, Boneman

Closebutnocigarasaurus:

Starbeast, paranoid marvin,

Tyrannavotusrex:

Dante DiBenedetto.

:D

My shortlist: Starbeast, anyone who loves monty python has to smile, andthe tucked in tail... Well.

Thanks Springs, I tried to create a wacky tail, er, tale.

Starbeast, you didn't disappoint and I gladly give you my vote this month.

You're a funny guy! (hopes Starbeast isn't really Joe Pesci)

Thanks for the vote Paranoid Marvin. Fortunately, I have a sense of humor. However, I can do an impression of Joe Pesci. (last time I did it was a couple of months ago at a wedding)

Eee! Thank you :)

Found it very hard to choose - reiver33, Glen, springs, Starbeast, Highlander, and Ursa all get special mention in my book but I finally plumped for ratsy. Was great fun reading through them all, well done everyone.

Thanks for the mention FeedMeTV.

vote in bold.

Incident at Galactic Grill and Grog Space Pub -- Starbeast

Thank you StilLearning, you made my millenium!

After reading through all the stories, here is my long list.

Glen
Abernovo
Springs
MemoryTale
Starbeast
Bowler1
Johnnyjet
Ursa major
Boneman

Thanks Crystal Haven for adding me to your long list.

Another great month with some fantastic stories, each of them of extremely high quality. Once again, well done to everyone who entered. :)

My Top Three:

Starbeast
Dante DiBenedetto
FeedMeTV

Wow, I made your Top Three, thanks Scott R. Forshaw.

A shout out to Phyrebrat and Parson for the mentions...and to my mystery voter who brought me to a total of 2 votes!! woohoo

A lot of really good ones this month but here is my "short" list

starbeast
paranoid marvin
johnnyjet
crystal haven
joan drake
alchemist
Ursa Major (Couldn't not add this one...just couldn't)

Thanks for adding me to your Short List Ratsy.

Starbeast, for that quite unexpected Cretaceous Inquisition.

Thanks David Evil Overlord, it was nice being short-listed by you.

And straight back in with my shortlist:

Starbeast

Thank you for the short listing Perpetual Man, it was fun giving you a "face-slapping" story.

Shortlistaceratops:

crystal haven, Phyrebrat, Culhwch, TheDustyZebra, Boneman

Closebutnocigarasaurus:

Starbeast, paranoid marvin,

Tyrannavotusrex:

Dante DiBenedetto.

:D

Wow! I am a Closebutnocigarasaurus, heh heh. I like your rating system. Thanks Brev.

I've narrowed it down to five people to choose from, but I can cast only one vote. Blast, this is tough to decide.

I'll be back.

Thanks to all who mentioned my story, and a special thanks to Lilmizflashythang for the vote.

My short list and shortest list:

Glen
Hex
mosaix
AJB
reiver33
johnnyjet
HareBrain
FeedMeTV
Aun Doorback
James Coote
Luiglin

It was hard to choose just one, but I finally went for reiver.

We still don't have many votes in, and time grows short.

Well, I did manage to vote, despite the hard disk crash that eliminated my spreadsheet. And as well as Kylara's pesky hatchling I was especially impressed by ratsy's Strata follow up, MemoryTale's military intelligence, David Evil Overlord's orbiting eggs, Brev's indigestibility, crystal haven's applied evolution, Ursa's prima dino, and Boneman's smoking hazards. Plus a whole lot more, but that's enough for a short list.

As the same hard disk crash that perturbed my voting also set my charts back a long way I can't manage a list of non voters as I do most months, but there seem to be rather a lot of them.

My nearly-list:

Hex
Dante
Crystal Haven
Parson
Aun

(Not chosen, I hasten to add, because their names make the shape of a Vulcan bomber.)

Close second: Stormcrow, for highly imaginative weirdness that felt much bigger than a 75-word challenge entry has any right to be.

My vote goes to MemoryTale, for producing a groan that might almost have emanated from a brachiosaurus with guts-ache, and a story that's crisp, clear and altogether spiffing.

Thanks to Dante and TDZ for the votes (TDZ, these meetings you speak of: there's food there, right? And I wouldn't have to pay?) and to others for various mentions.

thanks for the mentions Boneman and Chrispy! Looks like the race is fairly tight.
