Perp's New Year Reading Project

Thanks TJ I did not know about Roll of Honour but there are few there I did not know were members of Chronicles. I have had Joe Abercrombie sitting on my shelf for ages and now I have an excuse to bump it forward :) and a few more to add to the list...

Thaddeus - Yeah, had it floating around the old computer so it's been added.

Springs - I'll probably post the reviews here in this thread, seems the best place for them

You would be making the right choice in bumping his books forward. ;)

I was surprised too when I saw his name there. Afterwards I went searching for posts he'd made.

Right the list is now updated to include:

The Blade Itself - Joe Abercrombie (I already had this but did not know he was on Chrons!)

Brass Man - Neal Asher

Dragon's Tongue - Laura J Underwood

Imperial Assassin - Mark Robson

City of Masks - Mary Hoffman

The Noise Within - Ian Whates

I'll put a complete list together a complete list before I start to read

This little pile is getting a lot bigger than I thought, I've got no idea how long it is going to take to read or when I'll get to individual books. I'll be choosing the books randomly as I go...

Yup, The Hidden Stars is on the list and I think that is the first one in the series.

I have to say that I'm quite excited abut this and am looking forward to all of them. :D

Er... I'm already thinking that this really doesn't belong here in GWD, since it isn't a writing matter. Reviews certainly aren't, so if you are going to include them, I'll move this, either to GBD or SFF Lounge.

And, while not wishing to upset anyone, I do think a review should deal with a book's faults as well as its good points, otherwise it's of no more value than the so-called reviews on Amazon. (I'm feeling more than a little spikey here because for moderating purposes I've just been looking at a self-pub'd book which garnered 1 4-star and 11 (eleven) 5-star reviews on Amazon.)

Can I just say that Perp reviewed my self-pubbed book on GoodReads and he was, I thought, very honest and very fair. He gave it three out of five stars, I believe.

But it was a good first book.

And while I say I'll be positive that does not mean that I'll be gushing with praise, as I did Mouse, I'll rate it fairly and all that.

Hope no one is sweating yet!

Mouse - just after I bought the physical copies of yours tonight, I noticed that they are available in epub format on Lulu. If you have copies of them in that format I can read them, if that's okay.

God, I'm terrible, I had no idea they were in that format! I'm sure I can get them off Lulu for you. :)

Thankee Mouse!

TJ - if you think the thread is better suited to another section fair enough, I was humming and ha-ing as to where I thought it should go!

I was not sure about the reviews part, and it might be better to set up a devoted thread in the reviews area once I start reading!

Karn -yes I have the second one too, don't know if she has finished the third yet? We'll have to ask her!

Hopefully ... fingers, toes, knees and other things I have more than one of crossed I should have mine up on Amazon next year.

Re-writes galore to come though and a very patient proof reader in the wings awaiting.

Finishing it hasn't been helped by having a eureka moment concerning another story idea I've had in my head for a few years now. Finally the plot all makes unfortunate sense. Even to the point where my other half, not normally a SF or Fantasy style of reader, told me she would read it :)

Interesting idea! I might have to make this the year to pick up some of those books, myself. Or, knowing me, perhaps I should start now and make 2014 the year for that. I might manage it with a year's notice....

Let me know and I'll add it to my pile (if you are brave enough;))

TDZ - you'll probably still overtake and finish before me.

Right as things stand at the moment I have the following books in the pile and ready to read:

Echoes of War - Steven Poore

King of Thorns - Mark Lawrence

Alchemist of Souls - Anne Lyle

Space Captain Smith - Toby Frost

The Source - William G Gee

Undercurrents - Thomas M Grimes

The War Gate - Chris Stevenson

Urbis Morpheos - Stephen Palmer

The Hidden Stars - Madeleine Howard (Teresa Edgerton)

Bane of Souls by Thaddeus White

Simon and the Wardrobe of Destiny - Ellis Jackson

The Blade Itself - Joe Abercrombie

Brass Man - Neal Asher

Dragon's Tongue - Laura J Underwood

Imperial Assassin - Mark Robson

City of Masks - Mary Hoffman

The Noise Within - Ian Whates

The Empress Graves - E J Tett

I'll probably add one book from my regular to-read pile.

The plan is at the moment to start this once I finish 'Memories of Light' which is published in January.

I found it interesting to note that there seem to be more traditionally published authors than self published, so if there are any more of us out there let me know so I can add the books (If you want me to of course...)

Mouse - despite being told by Lulu that there was no way the books would turn up by Christmas, they turned up this morning, so I am now the proud owner of the complete Kingdom of Malinas trilogy :D
