Discussion -- 300 Word Challenge #8

Two excellent winners, well done both of you. Judging the two on their merits is very difficult, because they're so very different (which shows one of the beauties of the challenges: the incredible diversity that exists here on the Chrons), but after long deliberation I went with The Judge again. Personally I feel they should have both won, and split the tenner bewtween them.;):)

ps: And seriously, after voting and writing the above I just checked the poll itself to find I had a second vote! Thanks so much TJ!

pps: and the honorable mention, Ursa. Thank you!

Well I voted for Mouse first time round...so Mouse again! Congrats to both of you for the tie!

It's a good thing we have these tie beakers on polls I mean to vote on and then cant find time to do all the stories justice on before it closes.
So
Congratulations TJ on your tie
Mouse dear, your story was at the top of my "i have to vote" list (along with a few others I might message privately how their stories moved me, if I get around to it among everything else that needs doing) so I jumped right on voting for it now. Having read both, yours still gave me chills and a melancholy kind of happiness that I dont know I want to understand.
Best of luck to you both!

Well done Judge and Mouse. Now you have to sit and wait a little longer and hope your nerves can take the additional strain! ;)

My vote to Mouse, but good luck to both of you.

Congratulations to both mouse and TJ, two excellent entries from two excellent peoples.

For me I voted for TJ originally and it only feels right to do the same again.

Congratulations to Mouse and The Judge - both excellent stories.
But I know I’ve got to vote for one. My vote goes to Mouse.

And thank you for the review, Victoria Silverwolf, and a big thank you for the honourable mention, Ursa major.

Did somebody say tie beaker to a pole?

Tie beakers? Would an American be able to buy such an item in one of those Middle Eastern cravat emporia they have in, say, Yorkshire...

...T'Iraq....

Imagine a world with no r's. I would be out of a job:eek:

Your link isn't working, Alc

Well, they're both terrific stories, and both were in my shortlist, but Mouse was on the bubble in my shorter list, so the vote goes to her. Sorry, bridesmaid ...err... TJ. :D

Now that the main voting is over, I just want to point any interested parties in the direction of the song that was (along with the picture, of course) the inspiration for my story. I didn't expect that it would be recognized by many, if any at all, as it was a one-hit-wonder in the US and even I had never heard it until a few years ago. I was trying to come up with an idea for a story, and happened to decide to go through my music and upload it to my Amazon cloud for safekeeping, and that's when I realized the picture might be part of the story in this song. I give you "Brandy (You're a Fine Girl)" by Looking Glass:

Me too! :D

...did you happen to recognize it in my story, by any chance? I kind of picked up where it leaves off, making the assumption that he had finally decided to marry her after all, and went from there.

*rant on* I should take this opportunity to apologize (though it's no fault of my own) for the misspellings and odd punctuation of that particular "video" -- I hadn't watched it before posting it, and just wanted a link to the song itself. I don't know why it is that people who make PowerPoint presentations of lyrics on YouTube don't bother doing them correctly. It's very annoying. *rant off*

Woo! I'm back. What's that you say? You didn't even realise I'd gone? Oh.

Well... was pretty confident TJ was gonna kick my arse the last time I looked at the poll and now I see it's gone to tiebreaker. Exciting stuff so thanks to everyone who's voted for me!

And TJ? Always the bridesmaid, eh? What happened in July 2011? You won? Oh yes. Whereas I'm usually not even allowed in the church. ;)

:D

Congratulations to both tie-breaker finalists!

My vote goes to Mouse. :)
