Discussion -- 300 Word Challenge #8

Thankyou for the shortlisting, TDZ and Crystal. Like Boneman said, the quality has been so good this month, getting a mention is making me go yippee!

But not as long a Yippeeeeee, as for Alc's vote. Thankyou. :)

Thank you crystal for the shortlisting and alc, thank you for the vote! Taking advantage that its Carnaval week here in Brazil to do a little happy dance... :)

Oi! I thought you were complaining about getting home from the sen-drenched beaches of your holiday... and now it's Carnival Week??? Some people have all the luck...:)

Thanks to:- Starbeast, Abernovo, David Evil Overlord, Scott R. Forshaw, ratsy, johnnyjet and TheDustyZebra for the shortlists, and obviously great big thanks to crystal haven for the vote, which brings me equal to my personal three-hundred word best!

monsterchic -- moody and mysterious
chrispenycate -- unusual structure
johnnyjet -- good descriptions, open-ended
TheDustyZebra -- fine images
summer013 -- unusual theme
nixie -- interesting idea
alchemist -- stirs the reader's imagination
crystalhaven -- unexpected ending
Phyrebrat -- poetic in a Bradburyian way
M. Tullius -- intriguing notion at the end
Hex -- wryly amusing
Kylara -- a somber mood piece
Boneman -- quite touching
The Spurring Platty -- an entire world created in a few words
Ursa major -- an unusual point of view
The Judge -- thought-provoking
Teresa Edgerton -- very emotional
mosaix -- a shocking climax

I hope I didn't miss anybody.

As many have said, this was an extremely difficult contest to judge. I had to ask myself which pieces made the most original use of the theme, and which had the greatest emotional impact. With that in mind, I managed to whittle my choices down to three runners-up and three winners.

Runners-up:

"Interminable Beach" by Glen

"Live Forever, Die Alone" by Mouse

"The Grey" by summer013

Winners:

"Dreams" by Juliana

"For I Maun Cross the Main" by Abernovo

"No Love, No Hope" by Scott R. Forshaw

Is it my imagination, or are there loads still to vote? Could be an exciting last day...:)

According to my list, 43 submitted, 34 have voted (including at least Fishii who hadn't put up an entry), leaving:- Blacula, DthenB, Grinnel, Kylara, M.Tullius, reiver33, summer013, Teresa Edgerton, The Judge and Ursa Major, some of whom are newcomers and may be having difficulties mastering the poll, while others are renown for taking it right to the wire (without, this challenge, Cul, who took submission a little too close to said wire…).

Hey! Nine votes! For something I wasn't sure had functioned. Many thanks Nixie, and – I think it's Boneman I've not yet thanked, isn't it? By far my best showing (and against very strong opposition. And thanks for the long list, Victoria, at least assuming that "unusual" is complimentary, not a criticism.

Nah, must be someone else - you thanked me a while back, but I'll take the double thanks as you had a 'double' story!:)

Thanks for the vote, Victoria. :)

Beg pardon, Sir. Didn't mean to put a smile on your face. :D

Still waiting for that Ray Guns challenge, by the way!

You've turned me GREEN... oh, ok, I'm Irish.

For my RAY GUN challange I have to get votes, and that part of the plan is not going so well! But it will be RAY GUNS when I get there. :D, opps, wrong smile - :)

Voting...hmmmmmmmmmm I'll wait a little while longer and recheck my list I think ;)

A horse race, indeed! They seem to have picked up some steam for the homestretch, too.

Thanks for the mention, Victoria, and for the extra vote that surprised me just now, mosaix! :D
