Discussion -- 300 Word Challenge #8

Huh. Wrote down something, was sure it would be way too long, turns out I still have 150 words to play with!

It sure makes a difference from the 75 Word stories where it is SO HARD sometimes to flesh out a complete thought in so few words.

I have an idea, but I don't think I'll do it justice in 300 words, I might just have to expand it and see where it goes.

I've gotten an idea for the story just haven't had a chance to flesh it out, trying to write it in my head while I'm at work. We'll see how that works out. LOL

For the first time in a while, I've come up with an idea. I managed to get it to just under 300 words, and hopefully I can polish it up a bit before the contest opens.

Looking for some inspiration, I showed the picture to my little brother and asked him what he thought when he looked at it. His reply?

"Looks like Zeus is taking a break."

Not sure if I can turn that into anything worthwhile.

Tomorrow is the 10th, and I know there will be a flood of entries being posted.

As for me, I've got a few ideas, but I can't seem to expand on them. I'm sure at some point, "the muse will be upon me". But so far, nothing interesting.

I stared at that great image for quite a while, and yet, nothing has popped up like a fruit pastry from a toaster in my mind as a story. It's weird that the 75 January Challenge struck me out of no where when I was stuck for any idea. But this new 300 Word Challenge is getting me stumped for some reason. I won't look at the other stories until I can come up with something, and that is going to really bother me. But it's cool, I'm just probably trying to think too hard about what I want.

Don't push it, Starbeast, let your mind float zen like and make connections - let the force guide you into the creative centre. Try too hard and you risk the dark side and...

grrr... crash... grunt... the sounds of light sabers.

Sorry, that bloody Yoda turned up for Christmas and has yet to feck off. Leave my laptop alone you little green monster, and don't give me any lip about picking on someone small - you're a Jedi knight. Hey, Starbeast, have you got a spare room?

Eh? I suspect a joke, but I don't get it.
I think Ursa is playing on the "waiting" from your post -- not in the sense of hanging around, but as in serving someone in a restaurant. Hence the pun on plate (stepping up to it is an Americanism to do with baseball, I think, and means something like preparing/volunteering for a task).

I love this months challenge the photo is absolutely mind blowing and the direction I'm taking it is a bit far, hopefully everyone will get it. The first draft is just over 1000 words so I think even after I get it down that this challenge may be used in a story or something down the road. 1000 words down to 300 now that's a challenge in itself.

I thought so as well, but with the clever Bear I find myself looking for a hidden meaning. Those sharp claws weild an even sharper pen, which I love to see if I'm honest.

It's the 10th already. I've cut the tape, unveiled the plaque, made the speech, and the Challenge thread is now Officially Open!

Good luck to one and all.

Argh ... I've been struggling to get an idea that sounds fresh for this one, which is annoying as I love the picture.

Right, my story is in. Lord forgive me for plagiarizing the title from a story by one of the top three gods of sci-fi and speculative fiction.

Just posted my story. I'm a bit rusty, but the idea seemed to flow once I got started. Good entries in already, and I'm looking forward to reading the other entries, too.:)

I have hesitantly posted after seeing the great entries so far. I had this written for a week now so no point in changing my mind now.

I am already blown away by the quality of writing, Springs that was brilliant!
