Eastercon 2013

I might be there with Mrs. Tein, although the hotel situation seems to be getting worse. We were thinking of staying for Saturday night and then leaving on the Sunday.

Again, a lot will depend on the hotel situation.

Bradford isn't that far away, but last time we went there it seemed most of the 'fun', was to be in the bar, long after we left.

Should we wear 'funny hats' or carry a copy of "Strange Worlds" under our 'left' armpit to distinguish ourselves to each other.

Left, rather than the right, as I happen to know it has been agreed that members of the 'Futuristic Fiction' group, will be using the right armpit.

I don't think any of the hotels are full yet. I just booked a room at the Jury's Inn yesterday. The Cedar Court itself has very few rooms, so getting one there is almost impossible.

If all goes well I'll be there with Morpheus. Funny hats?

Yes well, I was thinking if we all bought a pair of wellies and stuck one on our heads then it would be obvious we were SFF people even in a crowd.

Now the left armpit idea works but in a crowd it can be difficult to see what under peoples's armpits.

The really important question is :-

Friday night? - everyone's fresh and in the mood for meeting and greeting, oh and getting drunk.

Or Staurday night? - everyone is recovering from friday and more in the mood for chat and intelligent conversation.

So, which night would all you experienced easterconners recommend?

Saturday night is definitely 'the heart of the con', though Friday usually pushes it close.

Then of course, on Friday evening there are two book launches, which means free booze and the chance to meet loads of authors:

5.00pm: PS Publishing -- attending authors including Stephen Baxter, Paul McAuley, Lavie Tidhar, Eric Brown and... oh, who is it now...? Yes, that's right, Me!

6.00pm: NewCon Press -- attending authors including Paul Cornell, Chris Beckett, Nina Allan, Christopher Priest, Mercurio D Rivera, Martin Sketchley, Eric Brown, Ian Watson, Adrian Tchaikovsky, Kim Lakin-Smith, Neil Williamson, and... ehm, me.

Best bet would be to come to both Friday and Saturday night, I reckon. :D

Ian, you sweet talker, we've booked for both nights and I blame you. Although we are staying in the centre at the Hilton (reasonably cheap though)

See you all there I hope.

We'll be the ones with wellies on our heads

(Yeah right, like Mrs. Tein will fall for that idea).

Great stuff, TEIN! (As if you weren't just looking for an excuse to do both nights in any case...)

Yes, do come over and say 'hi' -- I'll be easy to spot even before the launches. You'll probably find me either behind the NewCon Press table in the dealers room or in the bar.

I stayed at the Hilton last time around, and remember it as a decent enough hotel, so you should be okay. See you in Bradford! :)

I'll be there - I'd better be, as I'm the Fantasy Guest of Honour! Oops, that was nearly a typo - 'Fatnasty Guest of Honour'???? Well... not too fat, and rarely nasty...

The other guests are Walter Jon Williams, Anne Sudworth, and Edward James. The committee are still working on the programme. All I know for certain is that Titan Books are throwing a launch party for the reissue of my novel A TASTE OF BLOOD WINE at 5pm on the Saturday.

You know what that means. FREE DRINKS!!!
