Discussion thread -- 75 WORD WRITING CHALLENGE February 2013

Haha if only DEO! Nowhere near as fun...'finished' it this morning though and sent it to a poetical friend to have a look. The dinos ended up getting wiped out by a meteor which was a shame, I was kind of hoping they would feature for more than one verse!

Next 75er they shall make a return methinks, DINOS FOREVER!

Dinosaurs are just dragons who haven't invented fire yet. ;)

Stormcrow – The use of the word ‘effulgent’ is always going to be something that reminds me of Spike from Buffy for all the wrong reasons, but it works well enough here, the opening description is a thing of beauty. The story itself inspired some of the wonder and beauty of space, a reminder of just how vast the cosmos is, and that anything could be out there, even a rider of the space-ways. Enough to make a warm glow in the coldest of hearts.

Victoria – A chilling prognosis, a brilliant idea. The thought that photosynthesis could be the creation of a race trying to control the environments of the worlds they find. Better yet the understanding that such a thing could be twisted into a weapon to eradicate existing life is chilling, but even then there is hope, because sometimes one thing that seems definite, might lead to unforeseen results, and those might be more unimaginable than even the most creative of minds might come up with.

J. Hollick – This is a lot simpler tale, but one that is no less worthy. Straightforward it tells a story that virtually all of us would love to see, and it feels that more possible because it is closer to the world we know now. A simple exploration of a planet by an automated robot, might lead to many things, but the transmission that showed life would be Earth shattering.

Al. – An epic drama, the kind of thriller that is impossible to stop watching even though you know the tropes, hell you even know what the characters are going to say before they say it And yet the end of the story reveals the twist, and makes you start thinking about things on a bigger scale (or smaller) that what are just subatomic particles to us might just be lifeforms in their own right, a different perspective and answer to some of the questions we try to ask.

Tecdavid – Ahh, something a little different that was a breath of fresh air, or at least it was until I started singing along, at which point countless organisms were struck deaf in the immediate vicinity. A good idea, and well executed, the words coming together, keeping true to the rhythm of the song, while making sense and conveying a story at the same time. A sterling and successful effort.

Hmmm, time is starting to tick by and I still have not got an entry ready to go.

Could this be the first month I miss? Not sure I'm going to have the time to get something together, at least not one of the two ideas I was playing with.

Don't give up, there's time.

Thanks for the great comments Starbeast, Perpetual Man, Victoria Silverwolf & Tecdavid.

You're welcome Johnnyjet.

I hope you can join us in the 75 challenge, I've been keeping an eye out for you. ;) This eye.

TheEndIsNigh - Good surprise at the end, which did seem like the end, but birth is a part of life. And being aware of the peace and pleasentness inside the womb made this funny to me.

Nixie - The mysterious lives of the magical ones who exist among us is an excellent idea for this story. But unfortunity, like all hidden people, they are discovered, and intruded upon.

Boneman - This tale is a fast-paced incredible journey, and it's filled with high-speed fluild action! It's about the fantastic endeavor of a lone....well, you know. You're a funny guy Boneman.

AnyaKimlin - I suppose Merfolk need to do something to keep their population from becoming extinct. Oh my, now I'm thinking about seasoned caviar. A great fishy story, well done.

Thanks for the reviews Starbeast, Victoria and Perp (almost typed Victoria and David, sheesh)

TEiN – I really enjoyed this, something that was both an ending and beginning, but served each end perfectly, which is no mean feat. That life is a cycle, death being the point of stepping to the next life is something that has been done before, but never quite like this, or so well. Do not go into the light, being the light of the world being opened for a child is just a brilliant and mind bending idea. Make’s my head go all wonky just thinking about it.

Nix – There is a warning here that is simple but all to true and that is what is life for one can be death for another, something that is a clever encapsulation of the theme this month. There is the perfidious threat of mankind as it swarms across the world like a virus, and the fear of these immortal ancients, probably not only at their peace being sundered, but what might happened should man gain immortality for himself, in giving the forest extra life it seems they may stop the encroachment, but as I say bringing death with life.

BM – And now we have something that is in all truths the very essence of life. An epic journey and a battle against all the odds that sees one lone hero battle his way through all adversity to the prize. But it is more than that, of course it is an epic description of the ultimate journey. The creation of life.

Anya – There is always something that can make you smile, and this is one such story, In many ways a fitting compliment to the one above. A different look at the act of creating life, a more artificial and clinical way to the natural process as it were. Loved the little bit with the tablet. The perpetuation room is such a great name. Enough to make me smile when you think about what goes on. Clinical, but no less the creation of life.

Yes, Thank You, Perp Man! Flattered.

Errr..."Sorry". Does that help? Buffy - that seems a whole young family's lifetime ago!:D

Get well. Soon!
