Dormant

Was the earthquake a natural disaster? Or was it her?

Must I live within this sphere of doubt and dread? Must I question each consequence of mere passing days? Must the price of caution be my sanity?

I grow weary; a hero in a world already saved. But there always lingers the memory of that most vindictive diabolist that once distorted our planet--twisted it unforgettably--the curse of which still chokes me.

I wait.

Light and Dark

They had fought throughout time, the light and the dark, the good and the evil.

She came to him unbidden. He was easy to find. Wherever men warred, he was there.

‘I am done,’ she said. ‘I can do this no longer.’

‘Why now?’ Behind him, a missile strike. She shuddered, feeling the innocents die.

‘There is no hope.’

‘Silly girl.’ He smirked. ‘There never was.’

AN OLD STORY

SuperGranny burst through a cloud, decency and goodness pouring from every pore in her invincible flesh. There was no crime for her to fight, again. The younger superheroes had mopped up on all known lawbreakers. She flew down to her fortress and set about making tea.

Mercy, what was a SuperSenior to do? She sat down and knitted a sweater for every person in North America, though none of them ever visited her, the ingrates.

Confronting the Devil (you know)

Liz's head ached. This passage through the mirror hadn't gone easily.

"It's about time you awoke, whore."

Hahn? The embodiment of evil, his voice was soothing and familiar, completely lacking in menace. His consort, she had been sent to destroy him.

Opening her eyes, she found Alleyn, now a gentle middle-aged man. Denyilo's enchanted blade rested in his hand.

“You’re Hahn?” she gasped.

“Yes.”

She couldn’t kill him even if she still wanted to.

So, I'm all, like, dancing, right, with this totally hot prince charming? So fly!

But then my phone rings, cuz it's, like, midnight, and I gotta bounce -- my shoe falls off, and I'm like, the godmother is gonna murdalize me!

So today, the doorbell rings, and it's, like, the prince, with MY SHOE! I know, ewwww, right? Total stalker-- how do they find me? --and a shoe fetish!

Oh yeah, I called the cops. Busted!

Ballad for my Nemesis: Unforgivable

*sung outside their window every night*

Unforgivable, that’s what you are,
Unforgettable as this scar.
*shows*
Like a song of life that dies in me,
Killing you won’t fix this side of me. *sheaths knife*
Never before has someone been more...

Unforgivable in every way
And for ever more, that’s what I’ll say
That’s why, darling, it’s incredible
That someone so unforgivable
Thinks that I am

Unforgivable too.
*throws black roses at their window*

Two sides of the same coin

The god spun the golden guinea. A face showed: angry, malevolent. Waters rose, drowning land, crops, herds. Janus the Wicked, people said.

The god spun the golden guinea. A face showed: calm, benevolent. Waters rose, enriching flood plains, making deserts fertile. Janus the Good, people said.

Lust rose. Rapes, murders.
Love rose. Intimacy, life.
Terrorists/freedom fighters.
Suicide bombers/the faithful.

The god Janus, people said. Wicked/Good.
People spin their own coins, said Janus.
