Discussion Thread - SEVENTY-FIVE WORD WRITING CHALLENGE March 2013

It was really hard this month so I went with Springs purely because it made me sing. Whichever one I picked it was going to be for very superficial reasons so my second was Juliana and third Alcubierre Warp (sp??) for giving Tom such a hard time.

Not many villains this month, but plenty of heroes, of which I've selected (in date-of-posting order within each category) these:

Honourable Mentions:
  • High Noon by Luiglin
  • Unwilling villain by Hex
  • "And that which has wings shall tell the matter." by Talysia
  • Once Out Of The Pit by reiver33
Runners Up:
  • Hero at Large by paranoid marvin
  • Pattrolgrunt by chrispenycate
  • Ballad for my Nemesis: Unforgivable by hopewrites
Winner:
  • Impossible Relationships by TheDustyZebra

Whilst racking your brains to decide which story to vote for, there are also a bumper number of skyscapes here to look at and decide upon.

I did attempt to generate some comments at one point, but I seem to be constitutionally incapable of saying pleasant things for more than a paragraph or so.

So, as Thumper's mother told us "If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all."

My natural curmudgeonity would prevent my doing as good a job at it as present incumbents; I am essentially not a very nice person. Not even a very nice pedant (and the species is not known for its tolerant pleasantness).

I admire your honesty, most people deny their darkside, which is more than often easily seen by others. Their spicy quips and venomous vocabulary usually is a sign that they are better left alone.

But since you are a very active member here, and you are beloved by most, it's a good sign that there is a sweet center to your sour outer shell.

I still think it would be a treat to read your rants as you critique our stories like the comedian Don Rickles at a celebrity roast.

Have a great day :)

So, nearly the end of voting, who's missing. Well, Culhwch and The Judge, of course; the eternal last minuters (when I created this post Ursa was there too). The new entrants Dead seed and Mangara have apparently not found the poll, which leaves:- AlcubierreWarp, AMB, Glitch, J Riff, Luiglin and Scott R. Forshaw.

Thanks Ursa for the shortlisting.

Eek. Nearly forgot to vote. No time for a shortlisting this month, but my vote went to Glen. A special mention for stormcrow for the sheer poetry of his story.

While I'm here, thanks for the mentions/shortlistings TacticalLoco, AJB, Brev, crystal, Juliana and TDZ!

Thanks for the mention Lenny, Starbeast, jastius, Juliana, stormcrow and anyone else I missed.

Gah! I dared to think I might be in for a shot of losing in a tiebreaker yesterday, but it looks like my horse stumbled in the night. Slightly disappointed that I didn't manage to reach six votes (since my first entry in May 2010, I've amassed a grand total of six votes spread over eight competitions - it would have been nice to equal that in one month. I'll just have to aim for eleven votes in a single month, now), but that pales into insignificance next to the fact that I was actually a contender!! I'm over the moon about that, so thanks again to everyone who listed my entry and a special thanks to the five of you who gave me a vote. :D

All said, I've been a nervous wreck since Sunday (I really don't know how the members who consistently get lots of votes can handle it), and I'm very tempted to write a purposefully obscure story for April, just so I can calm down.

---

Anyway, allow me to be the first to offer my congratulations to this month's winner, TDZ:

Congratulations, TheDustyZebra!

And I have to give a special mention to Brev, who snuck past me into second place. I'll get you next time! ;)

The Poll has closed and we have a winner:
Congratulations, TheDustyZebra!

Wow, it didn't go to a tiebreaker? I thought I always had a tiebreaker! :D

Well done, Lenny and Brev, nice heart failure you guys have been giving me this week, and everyone else for the lovely stories as well! When I stop dancing in the streets (and get out of jail), I'll come up with something diabolical ...err... I mean, fabulous for next month.

Thanks again to my faithful voters! :D

With no tie-breaker needed, TDZ, you've really won your stripes this month.

Come on: someone was... er... bound to say it. (But they made a break for it....)

Congrats, The Dusty Zebra----------------------------You Are Safe

Good Job
