Discussion Thread - SEVENTY-FIVE WORD WRITING CHALLENGE March 2013

Way to go TDZ!! Many congratualtions - great story, thoroughly deserved.

One late shortlist: Parson, what a shame the internet conspired against you - I have a feeling it would have garnered some votes and there may have been a four-way tie break, who knows? Have a great Easter.:)

Nothing special in mine this month, really, except:
  • the title - Rat City in Blue - was meant to sound a bit like Rhapsody in Blue, and
  • the numbers after the "area code", 822** (i.e. 4263546) when translated to letters, spell out "Hamelin".

** - In North America the prefix 822 is reserved for future freephone numbers, so there would be no point in dialling 1-822-HAMELIN for quite a while. (Not that this means my tale wasn't contemporary fantasy. ;))

Cool idea you have Ursa Major, placing hidden messages and items in your stories (others sometimes do that too). I thought about doing that myself, but it's tough when you have only 75 words to work with.

I could only imagine what you could do with 500 words. Even I would be tempted to add hidden items in a story.

Wow, you guys are making my day and making me angry at the same time. I'm so glad so many of you liked my story. Now I wish it could have been up for voting.

Ah, well, such is life. There's always next month.

Thanks for the kind comments to:

(Have to get to work, it is Easter in two days. :))

Thanks for the mention High Eight, you made my day, and I did think of everyone with rabbit avatars. I hope you can join us in the challenges in the near future.

I'm going to post another item related to my tale after the voting is over. On an earlier post I explained the origin of my story.

Happy Easter Earth

You're welcome Parson. I was unaware your computer was giving you trouble, preventing you from posting. But I'm glad you're back with us again. Enjoy your Easter day.

As for me, Venus and I are going to play video games and watch some sci-fi movies this weekend. Then on Monday morning I have to fly her back to her planet using my starship. But right now I've got to stop by the store and pickup some extra vegatables, Venus loves salads. ;) See you folks later.

Howdy,
Parson, good story a shame it wasn't posted, I know all about those computer bugs.
Hope you and your flock have a great Easter.

Perp Man and Hopewrites, take a break, take care of yourselves, we'll get by somehow. I don't know how we will get by, but we have to carry on.

Happy Easter to all.

Bob

Thanks Bob. We will have a great Easter. He is risen!!

Hi all, I'm sending this from my phone - on the way to the Homestead in Bournemouth for Easter - so I hope my connection lasts and my typos are kept to a minimum.

CONTRATULATIONS TDZ, a worthwhile winner, and thank you also for the short listing. Same to Stormcrow, thanks for your kind words, too.

Lets have something really obscure next month, shall we? :)

I ought to mention that Meg and Lily are real cats, owned by a neighbour, and those are their real names. I've never heard them talking to each other, but you never know.

As it happens, Meg and Lily are both quite small; well, Meg would be small if it didn't look as if she eats Lily's meals as well as her own: so although they both have small frames, Meg's body must be circular in cross section, while Lily is really slim. Their respective body shapes provided me with their nicknames, Megamog and Lilliputian, which I gave them at least a year ago.

Trust the Chrons to give me an opportunity to use those names and nicknames in a story. :)

I really liked those characters you've created. Perhaps you could include them in another tale? Interesting origin too.
