Robb presents himself to Walder Frey, and Edmure meets his bride. Jon faces his harshest test yet. Bran discovers a new gift. Daario and Jorah debate how to take Yunkai. House Frey joins with House Tully.

Great Episode! Lots of action. And us book readers can officially talk about the red wedding without our friends hating us!

And what an episode nine it was.

So those who have read the books knew it was coming but for anyone who has not the loss of even more Starks was a huge shock, I think the archers shooting the direwolf upset me even more though.

The person who plays the part of Walder Frey must love his character, he has some great lines and he come across as creepy. The " I'll get Another" when Catlyn Stark threatens to kills his wife.

The fight with Jorah, Grey Worm and Dahrio was awesome, each with their own unique style.

Only one to go, looks like ill have to watch them all again after than just to get my Throne fix.

A great episode indeed.

I knew what was coming to Robb, though. Walder Frey and Roose Bolton really are treacherous bastards. Sure, Robb did betray him first, but he was sort of coerced to take the oath to marry one of Frey's daughters in the first place, and he still showed genuine remorse. Frey's betrayal of him was in another league.

The parts about Jon Snow and Bran Stark came together nicely.

And, of course, Daenerys keeps gettin stronger and stronger.

You know what, I was really looking forward to this ep and the Red Wedding scene in the books was something that really shocked me and at the time, I thought it was brilliant. Either I've changed or... I don't know. I just thought the whole thing was grim and relentlessly depressing.

Maybe it's that the first time, it's like "Jesus! All these people dying!!" and then when you know that's what happens the second time is just "Jesus...all these people dying..."

Probably.

Game of Thrones in a nutshell...;)

It's one of the reasons I'm not watching the show -- I've seen everyone die once, I don't think I could again (and in more technicolour than my brain usually manages ;))

I am really glad they didn't screw the Red Wedding up. They made it happen in much the same way that it does in the books, with the most glaring difference that in the books, Robb's wife and the blackfish weren't there. I only wished Grey-wind had been able to take down a few freys before he died (like he did in the books). That part was indeed very sad, especially the look he gives Arya right before he dies.

Great episode!

I'm having fun on reading people's reactions on the Red Wedding. They are going as bonkers as when Ned's head was chopped off. And even though I haven't read the books, I've been spoiled about certain events by mrs ctg.

So to me, I knew that something was happening when they closed the dining hall doors but I quite couldn't imagine that it was going to be that brutal. :D

PS. The topic needs alteration to bring up to the standard.

PPS. I suggest that mods create subforums for the GoT as this is starting to get really, really messy.

Even when you know the Red Wedding is coming, it's still pretty brutal.

I was watching the episode as I caught up on things I've missed over the weekend, but the moment the wedding band started to play The Rains of Castamere I dropped everything.

Interesting that Not-Jeyne was killed.

Talisa getting killed was a surprise, especially in that brutal manner. I think I hate the screen Freys as much as I hated the book Freys which says something for the script writers and the actor who played Walder Frey.

The part that effected me the most though was the separation of Bran and Rickon and finding out that Rickon could actually string a sentence together. The interaction between The Hound and Arya was excellent. I really felt for Arya in those final moments of the episode.

And finally Dire wolves involved in some serious action :)

I don't think there is much that I can add about the episode. I guess it was everything it was meant to be.

The red wedding was brutal and violent and horrendous just like it was meant to be.

Of course it is hard for something to be shocking when you know it's coming, but fortunately I could live vicariously through Mrs. Perp. All those weeks of keeping quiet and not letting anything slip paid off.

She had now said (a fullblown Harry Potter fan) that she will never be able to watch a film again without her stomach turning every time she sees Filch)

Also liked the fact there was no music at the end.

Outside of the wedding there was some more emotional stuff, with Bran and Rickon going their separate ways and Jon finally showing his own way.

In fact from the moment the episode started with Sam to the end in silence an all round excellent affair.

I also thought that was super. Now I just wish to catch up with the books as soon as I can, thinking GRRM is so full of surprises. The man has no mercy on killing major characters (especially the good ones) and his beloved wolves!

Allegra your so right Mr Martin has no mercy. He gives us cute puppies and keeps taking them away from us. I coped so much better with Rob's death than Ned, that shattered me!

I hope you noticed GRRRRR Martin's cameo in this episode. I thought he did brilliantly in the wheel change and got a deserved punch from Arya.

Thanks for the link! Excellent interview and I like 'The Black Dinner' drawing at the end.

What GRRM said is so true when asked if having ever regretted the red wedding scene: "No. Not as a writer. It’s probably the most powerful scene in the books. It cost me some readers, but gained me many more. It’s going to be hard for me to watch it [on the show]. It’s going to be a tough night. Because I love these characters too. And in a TV show you get to know the actors. You’re also ending that relationship with an actor that you have affection for." I'd surely be shocked and horrified if I was reading the brutal scene, but imagination is limited and sometimes you kind of repress it and just take the facts so it doesn't upset too much. When it's brought to live on screen right in front of your eyes the impact is utterly shocking and horrifying, you had to take some time to recover from it afterwards.

When GRRM is asked whether the event is based on history he said "The Red Wedding is based on a couple real events from Scottish history..... No matter how much I make up, there’s stuff in history that’s just as bad, or worse." That is also too true. He certainly did a great job blending fantasy and realism.
