Thanks for the shorter-listing Lenny! I'm glad you liked my hairy-faery-tale! That's made my day, that has!:)

well here goes.... many different takes on the theme and i thought i would really struggle to whittle it down but it was pretty easy in the end and i don't even have a shortlist. my vote will go, very shortly, to bowler1 for Un-Discovered Secrets

i liked the way this flowed - to me as i read it the pace picked up and changed from simple words to something with a beat... a heartbeat... which i thought reflected the idea behind the story...

might not have been what you intended bowler and may be because i've seen that royal navy ad too many times but hey, it's how i read it!!

Uh, belated thanks to Starbeast for the review. I've been busy lately. Also thanks for the runner up listing.

Thanks to Bowler and Mosaix for the shortlistings.

And many, many thanks to Glen for the vote!

Oh for... I thought Moonbat, I don't know why I typed Mosaix.

Ty, Starbeast for the mention. I am having another of those months where the grain of an idea is blossoming. NOT YET! I have a trilogy to complete, first. But, y'know... Sink estate, seedy narrator, magic world under a substation... Hmmmm. :)

Those ruddy keys move about sometimes, don't they? ;) #blamingthetools

Hmm, not sure that's a typo, I think you just wanted Mosaix's vote rather than mine :(

thank you for the listing DEO, very kind of you indeed.

( goes off and does happy dance)

Vote time again already? The summer is a mere passin' fancy.

My favs this month...

Glen - Excellent composition, with a great spooky got-ya ending.

paranoid marvin - I've always loved the metaphor of the Siren Song and your rhythmic poem echos it so well.

Grinnel - Findish twist of the dagger blade.

NovaZero - Welcome! Epic theme that held my thoughts long after I finished reading.

TheDustyZebra - Laugh out loud funny but also true in a scary way.

The Judge - Space travel, irony, profit margins over morals. I'd like to read more about this ship's adventures.

My winner this month...

Springs - Perfect, neat, cool little tale (parable?). Great whimsical ending.

My always grateful thanks to Chrons members, contributors and reviewers!
Perp? Chrons would by a lesser place with out you. Please do what you can sir.

And in other news...
Thank you so much Luiglin for putting me in your top three!

Okay, my shortlist has been ruthlessly pruned, like a field of zombies and a combine harvester...

LOL, you're cracking me up David. I enjoyed your short comments. I think you'd make a fine reviewer Evil Overlord.

Thanks for the short-listing, Starbeast. :)

You're welcome Ursa Major. My Short List was too long. My posting was my Runner's Up List, and you made it pal.

Thanks for the kind words BM and SB, I'll be keeping an eye of things, just trying to distract the kids a little more. As I already tell them epic stories about the Punning bear, an orange dragon, a beast from the stars and so many others, I'll just be adding to the tales!

You sound like a cool dad. Hey, take your time with your family. Others like Silverwolf and myself will keep an eye on the streets. I feel like Spider-Man, giving Batman a hand.

"Silverwolf and Starbeast away!" (crash) "I'm ok, I'm ok. I gotta keep an eye out for slippery pavement." (limps off)

Thanks for the mentions, Starbeast and DEO! :)

You're welcome TheDustyZebra.

Uh, belated thanks to Starbeast for the review. I've been busy lately. Also thanks for the runner up listing.

You are double-ly welcomed AMB.

Ty, Starbeast for the mention. I am having another of those months where the grain of an idea is blossoming. NOT YET! I have a trilogy to complete, first. But, y'know... Sink estate, seedy narrator, magic world under a substation... Hmmmm. :)

You're welcome Springs. Keep the brain juices flowing!

Thanks SB!

You're welcome Ratsy.

Shortlist: Glen, Starbeast, Moonbat, Alchemist, Chris. Vote: Cab

Thank you for the Short Listing, Mosaix. You made my afternoon.

Hi folks - sorry I've been missing a while - computer went belly-up. I really must make an effort to write something for this challenge. Maybe next month. Anyway - my short list for July:-

STORMCROW - Subtle!
Bowler1 - Workers of the world unite!
Cab - all I can say is [snerk] :D
MPorter - "If I was a Martian I'd start running now" - Harlan Ellison, July 1969

And my choice is:-

Stormcrow - I like that folkloric stuff.

Wow. Thanks to TacticalLoco and mosaix for the short-listings, and thanks to BigJ, JordanSC5, NovaZero, springs and Starbeast for the votes!

Thanks for the shortlisting, mosaix.

Meanwhile, there are many photos of the colour orange to be enjoyed and voted upon here if you have five minutes.

Firstly, a massive Thank You to High Eight - I'm delighted you enjoyed my story (although your vote doesn't seem to show up in the poll)!
...and it's good to see you on here again!:)

Right - prompted by Boneman, I'd better vote...my shortlist:

springs - Once again, a superb self-contained tale!
Mr Orange - My favourite among the poem entries this month; with a delightfully simple twist to close.
Karn M. - Ah, to discover a love that cannot be fulfilled...exquisite pain. Nicely done!
Glen - I enjoyed the 'slap in the face' abruptness of this.
Beta Wolf - Nice handling of the theme; not all discoveries are obvious, are they...?
Abernovo - To me, this felt like a passage from a novel...the ideas are huge within such tight constraints.
DEO - This one really appeals because of the topical history...and 'calumny'; that's not a word that makes it into too many of these entries!
Sleepy Dormouse - Lovely idea, well executed - could have been my vote-winner but for the 't'!
Phyrebrat - Wonderfully imaginative - not the ending I was expecting!
TDZ - Yes...very plausible this!

And my vote goes to:
The Judge - I love the way the pace builds over so few words; a great idea too!

Now, to quote Old Mr Grace..."You've all done very well"!:D
