Thanks, Perp. You'll get extra points if you can tell me what the expedition was.

Not sure on the dates, but possibly the one where he took command of the Discovery upon Captain Cook's death attempting to find the Northwest Passage?

Very nearly. I think I'll be sailing a bit close to the wind if I say too much more now. Remind me at the end of the month, and I'll expand.

After a disappointing showing over the last few entries I had promised myself that I wouldn't enter this month in order to re-charge the old creative batteries. However, there is something devious stirring in the depths.

Tywin, I loved the story and really felt for the poor sod that got shanghai'd. But didn't they warp out with her on the ship? Maybe he will have his comeuppance and get her in the end...

Only 75 words... there is so much more I could cram into this story. Still, I like that it leaves the rest up to the imagination.

That's also one of the things I'm really starting to love about these challenges. They end up giving me lots of little nuggets for larger more fleshed out stories.

Stormcrow - Your story definitely stoked my imagination. I finished it really feeling like I needed to know who the miner was and whether he or the mineshaft were a danger to the little girl.

Thanks for you comments Tywin! I'm glad you got that from my entry.:)

I'm in, as such!

It's a weird one even for me - what can I say! I've no idea how this one will go down, but my muse went with it.

Come to think of it my 300 is odd as well; I better stay off the coffee or something?

Hex – What could be greater treasure than a lesson learned. It is something that many people should bear in mind when attempting anything, sometimes what you find about yourself can be worth more than a weight in gold. I liked the rip-roaring adventure feel of the story, and the integration of a poem as well, but I think the lesson was the most important thing.

Bowler – It is easy to take things for granted. To forget that whatever is visible is often part of a greater whole, and of course with that comes the warning that it is often the smaller things that make the world go around. These little things are often just parts of a whole, but what happens when that whole starts becoming something more, because of all those little parts. Gulp?

Luiglin – One of the things that has always intrigued me is just how man found out about foods and stuff. I mean, he sees an orange bites into it and decides it's the foulest fruit on the planet and never goes back again. Only we did and learned to peel. And then we have the question of milk. I mean, really? Look at a cow. Who is going to say lets drink what comes out of the dangling things on the bottom. But someone had to. And now we know how and why. It might be disgusting but it has to be one of the greatest overlooked discoveries of man. Excellent story. Unless in this instance it was a bull, in which case scrap everything I just said.

@Tywin - thanks

@Perp - thanks as normal and is spot on the essence of my thinking ... except for the bull bit.
