Thanks for the positive words folks. It's a theme I've been trying to work up into something longer for a while but could never find a suitable ending for. I guess it works fine in 75 words ;)

Perpetual Man, Victoria Silverwolf; you both are certainly very kind reviewers, thank you for your comments upon my story. Perpetual Man, "cute"? - childlike in nature, attractive, clever, showing cutting wit? I'll take that as a comment for my writing any day.
Victoria Silverwolf; "showing the extraordinary of the ordinary". A lyrical turn of phrase you've used there. Much appreciated.

Starbeast -- an amusing comedy of errors

BetaWolf -- a subtle paranoid thriller

Abernovo -- a hard-boiled fantasy noir

AJB -- mystical hard SF in the tradition of Stapledon and Clarke

MPorter -- an open-ended tale on a vast scale

Thanks, Victoria. :)

Victoria – There is something quite scary about a story where the discovery is about a disease that can be used to render people sterile, and used somewhat randomly in an attempt to control overpopulation. Perhaps it is something that is done not out of malign intent, but with the most benevolent of intentions, trying to restore a semblance of order to our world, but... but... what if a cure is not found?

SB – As I have come to expect a tale that is replete with a fun and humour, the kind of thing that makes SB's tales a delight to read. It does not tell the reader that much when you look at it, just what you need to know and that is what makes to story so much fun. A mad scientist(?) a new drug that changes attitudes, apparently toward apathy and the unexpected effect of two people taking it. I think they might have a slight problem. Fun, fun, fun!

BetaWolf – to me at least this was a great twisty tale that makes the reader think, with some nice ideas concerning the theme. The man in black discovers the 'plant' Does the man know what he is, or does he not, but he discovers there are creeps after. The police discovers a strange crimewave building. But is the MiB being true, are there people only waiting to discover their lost selves or is he completely around the twist needing to discover his lost sanity.

Aber – A nice little story with a slightly sinister conclusion, well for me at least. The narrator comes across as some sort of watcher, but there is a strong impression that he is there as much more than a silent witness. There is the nice twist that the prey is actually the hunter, and the underlying feel that perhaps the Wight was not the thing actually being hunted. Sometimes we discover something we really wish we hadn't...

AJB – Almost a love song to the very fabric of reality. It also allows another view, one that is different and thought provoking. Sometimes we may well know that something is there, and might just want to carry that level of understanding on, but it is not always the greatest of discoveries that come from the brain. Sometimes they have to come from the heart.

Thanks, Perp. :)

It didn't come out quite as I wanted, but I'll say no more than that.

I'm existing on a heavily charged emotional rollercoaster and about 4 hours a night sleep, so I might be seeing things that aren't there at all. ;)

Well, an early showing from me this month.

I do like it when we get the choice of sci-fi or fantasy.

Some great entries so far!

MPorter – A little story that starts off with an attempt of wrongfooting, making you see that things that you recognise before pulling the carpet from underneath you and turning things on the head. It looks so obvious that it is a story about humans with aliens incoming that it takes a little kick when you learn it is the other way around. It even tells you that the incoming is from the outer edge of the galaxy which makes the whole thing more satisfying.

BigJ – A great (well the story itself, not the events) attempt. A brilliant first line that leads the reader on a quest for vengeance and destruction. There is little that can drive a man as much as love and to find that love betrayed? Well we see the results here as he prepares to teach the man his wife cheated with a terminal lesson. Some good throwaway lines (murder ball player) give the story that much more depth. A lot of fun.

pm – As has come to be expected an excellent poem once again, well constructed with a great story to boot. Some of the greatest pirates the seas have ever seen, fall foul to the lure of the sirens. It is a pitiful end to colourful and successful careers that are so wonderfully fleshed out in the opening lines, and yet it seems somehow fitting.

MB – I really don't know what to say about this one, other than it is well written, a tremendous idea and an incredible amount of fun, fun, fun. I actually has images in my head of the characters, something that should be impossible with a mere 75 words.
