Discussion thread - SEVENTY-FIVE WORD WRITING CHALLENGE August 2013

I hope you guys don't mind I decided to make my first post my contest entry!

Good evening I Voyager, nice to meet you.

I think it's great that you are eager to enter a challenge right away. As for me, I stumbled across this thread, and I've returned nearly every month. One month, I was a bit lost on the subject of the theme, but I managed to throw something together after I did a little research.

Recently, I began to review each story. I do it for fun, and I like to entertain people.

Change

Tywin - A serial killer has gone through a new rehabilitating treatment, that is favorably looked upon, and used to return him into society. However, is he really a changed man? Fiendishly creepy, and very thought provoking. Awesome.

Mith - Those who have strong feelings toward what is right, and what is wrong, will pose these powerful questions: "Is Cloning wrong?" "Even when we have the technology to make it possible, should we?" Genetically groovy story!

Springs - Fantastic weird fiction tale about not having to feel the discomfort of PAIN anymore, with the aid of science. But, unfortunately there is a terrible side effect that stuns the reader at the end of this story. Dramatically tremendous!

Abernovo - Astounding alien tale, where a young insectoid is impatient to grow up so he can join the hunt for fresh meat, humans. Darkly delightful, and fun like a pleasent family outting.

Bowler1 - Machines will always be helpful, even with children. But give them an A.I., and they can turn upon you, like in this savagely superb sci-fi entry. Eerie excellence and very spooky.

Ratsy - In the far furture, there are two classes of people, those who live above ground, and those who live beneath the cities struggling to survive. A lone individual discovers a means to obtain an education, and through knowledge, his life will change forever. Astonishingly cool!

Venusian Broon - Amazing science fiction story, in which androids are given artificial intellegence to see if they will become humanlike, through understanding experiances. This familiar tale is given new life and excells in entertainment.

Karn Maeshalanadae - Whoa! Shocking, and what some people believe, is a possible reality that is in the near future. Outstanding story, that gives us a strong dose of fear and paranoia in what might become fact, rather than fiction. George Orwellesque and very frightening.

Victoria Silverwolf - Imagine if voting weekly was mandatory to keep yourself in a better class of social existence, that would be a political nightmare. And in this tale, it's a way of life. Undebatably good stuff.

The Judge says she wishes people wouldn't interrupt her tea break by making her count words... :p

Anyhow, at this moment, both my assorted and servile minions and the Great Bear's myrmidons are combing through dictionaries, books of English usage and various incunabula prior to setting down with the Staff Room abacuses. They'll be reporting to us as and when tea break is over -- and we're running short of millionaire's shortbread here, so that might be soon unless we get fresh supplies parachuted in.

Although far more awesome than having plain old minions, I fear that myrmidons might not be best suited to 'combing through dictionaries' etc...

Oh, and thanks for the review SB!

Tywin was right about the myrmidons: they're useless when it comes to dictionary combing, hence the delay. :(

Anyway, we believe that I_Voyager's entry conforms to the 75-word rule, so the story remains in the challenge. :)

Thanks for the wonderful review, Starbeast. :)
Appreciated.

Yea! It's a very good story. Glad to hear I was wrong and it's still in play.

thanks for the review SB!

You're welcome Tywin.

Thanks for the lovely review, SB. You're all getting very lyrical this month.

You're welcome Springs. Our lyrism might be the effect of the final pleasent days of summer.

Thanks for the wonderful review, Starbeast. :)
Appreciated.

You are very welcome Abernovo.

Change
(part two)

Luiglin - A lightly dark humored tale set in the future, that mirrors many people's work routine today. Making a move to change jobs can be a great thing, so long as it's not the same-old-same-old. Good stuff.

RoninJedi84 - Excellent science fiction story that gives us a look behind the scenes of reality, to expose the involvment and workings of life manipulating controlers of destiny. Paranoid fun.

Hex - Mind-blowing weird fictional offering that delves into the strange technology of "Melding". Exceptionally fantastic idea! However, we are also reminded to beware of strangers. Creepy cool.

Dream Walker - Getting a new pet is always a wonderful experiance. The same could be said for humans, when other worldly beings are our masters. A tale right out of classic pulp sci-fi magazines! Good stuff.

Glen - A new life begins within the safe confines of a wall enclosed sanctuary. Because outside, turmoil and decay is happening to humanity as it crumbles into savagery. Great idea for a novel series.

Stormcrow - In the far future, everything is altered and upgraded, even people in this eerie entry. I really enjoyed the dialogue about what flowers were like in the past. Stimulating synthetic story.

David Evil Overlord - I love the title of this tale, it immedately grabbed my attention. Then I began to read this far-out sci-fi offering that dazzled me, and made me hungry for more. Monstrous, and spliced to perfection.

TacticalLoco - Jam-packed with atmospheric intensity and written like a futuristic science fiction drama that could expand easily into a gigantic saga. You got me hooked! Well done.

BetaWolf - In this superb drama, a mother and child make a voyage from their familiar surroundings to a better life elsewhere. Emotionally grabs me with it's starkness. Cool ship name too. Good stuff.

Thank you, Starbeast. :)

You're welcome BetaWolf.

David Evil Overlord, you're welcome.

Change
(part three)

Johnnyjet - Cyberpunk future setting in this story which involves the installation of a reinforced steel curtain for a gentleman who wishes to be kept safely behind it. Be it criminals or bad droids lurking about, it's always better to be protected, than victimized. Great uneasy atmosphere.

Jastius - A sweet sci-fi story that tugs at the heart. Sad with heavy drama, but exceedingly interesting in stirring detail. Wonderfully written touching tale of tragedy and hope. Well done.

Perpetual Man - An outrageous offering that begs to pull the finger of fun. Join the gathering (provided you have an invitation) for a demonstration that is guaranteed to be a blast! This story reeks with an odor of excellence.

Mr Orange - Saddle up your iron horse, and ride into this science fiction space western. But, beware, the town called Change is a hive for gun-slinging scum and villainess bad men. Yee-haa!

Starbeast - For days my mind was a complete blank, I couldn't think of anything right away. So, I put the challege in the back of my mind and chilled. Then suddenly, while I was waiting in line at a grocery store, the muse was upon me. Talk about out-of-the-blue.

I Voyager - Whoa! In this entry, a trip to the body shop doesn't mean you need repairs on your vehicle, it means reference to real human bodies here! Freaky cool sci-fi story.

J Riff - How many people with mental powers does it take to change a light bulb? Only two, in this humorous tale that is splendidly written in marvelous dialogue. Good stuff.

BigJ - Astonishingly cool entry about a labor droid who developes feelings for another droid. Love is the wrench in his cyber mind that is making him go haywire (just like us humans). Robotic romance, riveting and beautiful.

What a review! Thanks SB, made me smile and then some!

You're very welcome Pertetual Man. The challenges were overdue for a tale about methane usage.

Thanks for the review starbeast

You're welcome Mr Orange.

Thanks for the reviews Victoria and SB.

You're welcome Luiglin.

(part four)

Alex, The G and T - Take a seat and enjoy a slice of this mighty fine fun offering. Seasoned deliciously well and served up as a delectably galactic tasty treat. Nice to see you here Alex.

starbeast your review was literally inspirational. it made me go back to my itty bitty story and start to work on some of the back story, and now it is sprouting into something bigger. thankyou! :D

I've actually managed to post a story. Whoop! It's been longer than I care to remember, but I guess that's what having a newborn does to you. Perp may disagree, but I'm not quite so super. ;)

Anyway, I thoroughly enjoyed writing it, and just hope it doesn't take as long until my next one. :)

I'm not going to disagree at all. The drain a newborn puts on everything is immense in the best possible way. I seem to recall taking time off from the Chrons when both Perp Jr.s were born. (I only managed to keep posting in the challenges by sneaking them in when I got back to work).

Certain things come along and take our time away, and having a baby is one of the best reasons. Congratulations!
