BristolCon 2013

Looks interesting. I see Ian's book launch is around lunch (just as I planned, evil laugh!) ;)

I think I'd have to scoot on about lunchtime. Maybe hang around to get Anne to sign my Merchant of Dreams copy, then run.

I should be there, just have to get final confirmation. It's pencilled in, but it's a busy time of year at work and anything can change at the drop of a hat. I just have to recruit everyone in the next couple of interviews so I have plenty of cover for that day :)

just checking train times, and there are no trains from Cardiff to Bristol on that day!

Really? It isn't exactly Timbuktu to Ulaanbaatar.

Are there engineering works on the route?

There were this last weekend as well... buses from Bristol Parkway to Patchway and the like... all London passengers had to change at Bristol Temple Meads... going north-south was all right :) though. So sounds as if they're doing some massive work between Bristol Parkway and Cardiff somewhere...

The Cardiff to London trains are taking an extra hour. So I guess they're going via Gloucester.

According to National Rail Enquiries (Start date: 26/10/2013; End date 27/10/2013):
Engineering work is taking place between Bristol Parkway and Severn Tunnel Junction with some lines closed.
and
Buses will run between Bristol Parkway and Cardiff Central.

:(

I think the busses are actually between Bristol Parkway and Newport. Don't worry, I'll find a way.

OK Buses are actually between Newport and Bristol Parkway.

Sorry to add to your misery... but they're also building a a new multi-story car park at Bristol Parkway... it was bedlam on Sunday.

So if you don't know Bristol Parkway and you are in a hurry... once you arrive by bus, head through the glass doors and go up all the flights of stairs (the intermediate floor only leads to a car park), through the ticket barriers immediately in front of you. The stairs down are on the left hand side. The first set lead to platforms 3 and 4. The second and last set lead to platform 2. Platform 4 is on the left hand side when you reach the bottom of the stairs and you can only go straight on. The longer platform 3 you can go straight on or double back on yourself.

As a rule of thumb, Cross Country trains running north to south i.e. go from Bristol Parkway to Bristol Temple Meads will run every half an hour (but check this). They tend to leave from the far platform 2. You might get directed to platforms 3 or 4, in which case you are likely to catching one of the local commuter trains.

Hope this helps and good luck for getting to Bristolcon.

I bought my ticket the other day so I will definitely be there now, but only until about 2ish.

Who else is definitely going?

And I'll be there as well... I'll introduce myself to you, if I can recognise you...

Is he in heaven? — Is he in hell?
That damned, elusive Pimpernel"
