Discussion thread -- seventy-five word challenge September 2013

While we got an excellent selection of alternative histories, I felt a number of the stories lacked the 'listening' theme, like the dusty zee's sssplended essssay (and is that alternate history, or alternative mythology?).

!

Erm. Well, now.

I shall mount my defense at a later date.

I can't figure it out and can't stop thinking about it.

Nationalist Pedantic Curs?
Net Positive Charge?
Nested Placeholder Code?
Noble Philanthropic Combat?
Nascent Psychopathic Children?
Naughty Pun Cavalry?
Notorious Peruvian Corps?
Nuclear Pink Candy?
New Pornographic Chastisers?
Nimble Poetic Canaries?
Nice People Collective?
Northern Photon College?
Neutral Plebeian Court?

LOL! We can be anyone of those above, lets form the gang now!

Even after the voting is over, this doesn't become a "just a few of the ways you could have improved your story" thread.

;):)

Tywin & Starbeast - Thanks:)! I appreciate being amongst your favourites!

A lot of love in the air here tonight, which is nice!

Thanks Jastius and SB for the listings!

You're welcome Ratsy. You were tied for first place in my book.

Wow! Gold! Thanks for the vote, Victoria! And thanks for the short listing, Starbeast.

You're welcome Johnnyjet. You were also tied for first place.

Yes, wait till the voting is over, then - FIGHT....

Oh, ok. Puts on gladiator battle gear.

Tywin & Starbeast - Thanks:)! I appreciate being amongst your favourites!

A lot of love in the air here tonight, which is nice!

I thought I smelled pheromones. Anywhoo, you are very welcome Stormcrow.

Starbeast, thankyouverymuch for your vote - you give me hope to carry on!:)

You're immensely welcome Paranoid Marvin. It was a ten-way tie. And I kept coming back to your poem. I'm a big fan of your poetic tales, I always looked foward to them, and this time, you rose above the rest.

Well done sir.

Good Challenge - interesting, thought-provoking and entertaining entries all round!

My shortlist:):
Mith - Nicely tense. Poor Wellington listening to the sound of his final defeat!
Victoria - I love the vivid imagery you used! We'd all be listening differently now, for sure!
chrispenycate - I really like this one. I can really picture determined militias awaiting the coming onslaught.
Aun Doorback - So well written, with a delightfully mischievous twist on Joan - and her 'voices'.
Ursa - Imagine that....! I can't help but think that your Beethoven could have rivalled Mozart!
Phyrebrat - Once again, you've delivered a great story, dripping with atmosphere! Splendid stuff!
Tisiphone - A strong return, this. I clearly pictured the proud Jehanne...waiting; listening, preparing. Hot stuff.

And my vote:D goes to:
Bowler1 - A lovely atmospheric piece that re-spins familiar histories together into a satisfying and entirely believable alternative. Really enjoyed this! Great work Bowler!

...and Starbeast...sorry 'bout that. I've taken a bath now!

Many thanks Alchemist for the honourable mention and Starbeast for the runner-up - muchly appreciated. And Victoria for the usual excellent (which should be a contradiction in terms, but isn't...) precis.

Voting: with the constraints of the titles, and the excellent way people responded, I did do as Chrispy, and ruled out a few that didn't quite fit both (blame Hex...;):)). Anyway Runners up, Finalists and *winner*.

Alchemist
Bowler 1
Ratsy
Starbeast

Thanks to everyone who mentioned my little effort this month, and sorry not for mentioning everyone by name.

Considering the way I wrote it, I was not expecting much so to have as many comments as I did made it extra appreciated.

Which means the vote from Nixie made me feel like I was flying!

Thank you!

I had a nice list.

All my favourites, the short list, as it were.

And I would normally post it here along with my vote, but I lost the damn thing and can't remember every name on it, and don't have time to read through everyone's entries again, besides I know who I'm going to vote for.

So I apologise to everyone on the list - I'll post it if I find it.

But the vote goes to.... TJ.

There was just something to the story, a simple idea but one from which so many changes could spring.
