Discussion thread -- seventy-five word challenge September 2013

I've always gone for the KISS method on 75 stories ... keep it simple stupid.

I agree with ratsy though in that the 75 lends itself well to the humorous or last line twist. Combining the two is a bonus :)

I tend to work that way, myself -- I just write to 75 words, and if I can see that it's getting close and I still have too much to go, I stop and start over a different way. I've never written more than 100 words to start with, and generally not more than 80 or so. It would be incomprehensible if I tried to cut something big down to 75, speaking only for myself.

I am in! The idea just came to me so i wrote it out...And for the first time in months, I am not on the first page of entries

However, having never won or got close to winning a 75 please feel free to ignore my thoughts :)

I Voyager -- This bold and ironic tale makes use of a relatively simple form of technology to influence an event which has an enormous effect on at least three major cultures of the world. Strikingly epic in scope.

Sound Barber -- A strange and moody look at a being which is somehow in contact with everything. An unusual and intriguing work.

chrispenycate -- The major conflict of modern times is recalled in this depely moving vignette. Powerful emotions are conveyed in a restrained manner.

Luiglin -- This darkly comic tale reminds us that even the best of motives can have unintended, drastic consequences.

ratsy -- This daring story reimagines the roots of an event which is considered to be the most important in human history, and is brave nough to suggest an alternative.

alchemist -- The author uses a delicate, personal touch, along with hints of another reality, to create a haunting vision of infinite possibilities.

Yes, that was a very good interpretation of "alternative history" wasn't it. It takes some skill to manage two drastic interpretations at once and leave the reader so satisfied.

Very slow for me and I'm slow in general as there are loads of great posts ahead of me. I enjoyed the idea, it was a cool mix - well done Hex.

Thanks for the review, Victoria (was that really mine?!) and the kind words, I_Voyager.

Been away for a couple of days. And will likely be away for a couple of the next days. But this is a cool idea. Two stories with an overtly religious bent?!! I might just be a bad influence around here.:)

Glen -- Through vivid language the author offers us a personal view of the theme of the "Time Patrol," showing us that such a responsibility might come at a great price.

Bowler1 -- The title and the story make use of subtle ambiguity to show us what might be an alternate ancient past or an alternate recent past, allowing the reader's imagination to add much to a few words.

The DustyZebra -- This look at the very dawn of humanity manages to retell a familiar tale in a way which truly makes it the story to end all stories.

Three, now. :)

My first try at this challenge. Hope I haven't cocked it up.
