Discussion Thread -- SEVENTY-FIVE WORD WRITING CHALLENGE -- January 2014

Aber - Perhaps one of the most chilling stories so far, that comes with and manages to carry an emotional core. It is quite a feat to tell a story that ends with a line that is both heartrendering and chilling, but against all the odds this tale manages it.

Bob
- A tale that is underwitten with a vein of humour that runs through the story, making the reader smile no matter what. It is a wonderful knack, giving the story the feel asa something that might be regailed by friends around a campfire, a tall story that feels like an old friend coming home.

DEO - In some ways this story is a warning. What can happen when there is a major stand off between to opposing powers. Inactivity can lead to plotting, and well sometimes that just escalates. It is well told and a lot of fun, setting the scene for something that could really be a cold war.

Thanks for the review, Perp! :)

Starbeast, no one has said such lovely things about my poetry before, thank you so much - you have brightened my day

You are very welcome SevenStars. I'm glad I can cast some sunshine in your direction.

Thanks Victoria and Starbeast, as always.

You're welcome Alchemist.

Thank you Victoria and Starbeast for the reviews. :)

You're welcome SleepyDormouse.

Star Beast: Thanks for the review. I'm not sure that I want to do horror well but it's an honor that you think so.

You're welcome Parson. It's true, not everyone wants to write a spooky story, but sometimes people can surprise you, like yourself.

Cold/Dark Fantasy
(part seven)

RichardWolanski - Firstly, nice to meet you. And second, I'm thoroughly amazed that you took a very differerent route when you created you tale. It's uniqueness stands out immenesly, showcasing, congenital deformities. Excellent.

Abernovo - Heh heh. I love stories about people who don't take heed to warnings, and discover that consequences do happen, even damning ones. Your offering would make a cool prologue for a horror flick. Nice work.

Bob Senior - Like a frozen pretzel, your tale is chilling and twisted. An astonishing entry that is very much like a story ripped from the pages of Eerie Publications. Monstrously fun to read and freaky to imagine. Good stuff Bob.

David Evil Overlord - It's war amongst the Elves of Fire and Ice, with each side concieving the most destructive ways to annihilate the opposition. Fantastic idea, and I equally enjoyed the ending. Release the dragons! Mu-ha ha ha ha ha ha.

Teresa Edgerton - You served up some creepy goodness which flows smoothly much like a glacier, but in time, all grows cold as an icy heart, and then shatters tragically. Darkly exquisite and well written.

So for the first time after lo these many months, I have scratched out a story and submitted it.

Scratch out?! That story was a thing of beauty and depth. You write like the old pro you are. GOOD STUFF!!

Thanks, TDZ. It's good to be back. I didn't think I'd have an idea in time for the deadline, so when something turned up this morning, I was pleasantly surprised.

And thank you, Victoria, Starbeast, Parson, and DEO for the kind words. I was worried about it, because I didn't have time to obsess over every word as I usually do.

(Although obsessing sometimes involves nothing more productive than taking a word out and putting it back in a few dozen times, it always makes me feel better whether it accomplishes anything or not.)

Teresa - Are humans suited to immortality? There are those that would like to think so, but truth be told the actuality of forever is probably harder to comprehend than we think. So when someone achieves that immortality in this story it makes sense that after enough time, the call of death grows too strong to resist. Beautifully told, one might even say heartbreaking.

And to echo the others it is good to see Teresa back.

As for myself, I'm well aware that time is ticking away. I had a story, but I've decided that I'm not going to post it. It seemed in bad taste due to local matters and although most people would not know what I was talking about, I would.

I did have a back up, probably not Dark Fantasy enough, but I uh, can't find it...

Hello all. Just a quick post: Virgin Media (in their infinite tolerance) have cut me off (oh, the joys of freelancing & hand-to-mouth!) so am limited to posting on here via my phone on 3G.

Not ideal and it means I won't be participating in the 75 or 300 this month - (and we'll keep the fact that I'm idea-less quiet, ay?). May get my tv and bb turned on tomorrow if I get paid but I'm not optimistic.

So ... If I do and I get an idea, I will. If not, I won't. Try not to be too disappointed at the lack of me trying to crowbar a ghost or spirit into my story this month ;) :p

I'm sorry to say we've had to disqualify another good story this month for being over word count, where two words had been mistakenly written as one. So, in addition to the usual

COUNT YOUR STORIES BY FINGER POWER

reminder, here's a

ALWAYS CHECK SPELLINGS AGAINST A GOOD DICTIONARY

warning.

Perp

Here are the first 5 words to help you along: "The night was freezing cold...":p

Phyrebrat:

Here's hoping that you get internet connection settled, have an idea, and find a way to get paid. :)
