A tiny little apostrophe question

Why not look up if there's a preferred style guide for astronomy? If there is, I'm sure the question has been covered...

So maybe consult the CSE or ACS style guides.

A quick search of the Saturn V rocket and how it was written about may help. It is referred to as the Saturn V. When referring to multiple Saturn V rockets it's: Saturn Vs. The cancelled Saturn Vs. When referring to something belonging to the rocket it's: Saturn V's. The Saturn V's fuel economy.

Um. I read it as Ferran-vees not Ferran-fives.

Also, is this the first first mention of the planety thing? As long as you've written Ferran-V somewhere in the prose already, Ferran-Vs is much less ugly than Ferran-V's.

I realized that it was Ferran-Five. Do you mention any of the other satellites I, II, III, and IV in the story, so that readers will know that it's a roman numeral?

Anyway, since it is a number rather than a letter, shouldn't we be looking at the rules for numbers, in case it's different than the rule for letters?

Or should we even bother, because the answer is obvious (though not to me)?

I can only come up with two different ways for Kare, without sending him to a foreign country. I seem to use both of them interchangeably, and I have no idea which one you intended. :)

(when springs first said 'Kare' I went 'huh??' -- it sounded to me like "cur", but I think that was the Belfast accent she mentioned... ;) )

No, it's mentioned before, enough the reader will know the system at least, I think.

Um... Consults notes. Nope. I do have some scenes on Ferran itself and could easily slip a mention in. Darn, I will crack this world building one day.

See, that's the third pronounciation and, of course, the correct one. Currrrrr. That's the one. :D

Culchies in space! You can all go google that one - except Alc and Sevenstars, who are the living embodiment. :p :D

Just as soon as I recharge my phone from the tractor's PTO shaft ...

(I'll out-culchie any of ye, any day)

Yes, stick it in a box somewhere and save it for something where it will be more appreciated.

apocryphal Suess

There once was an apostrophe
That didn't know what to do with V
For when the V had plural-icy
It thought it looked possessively
and that could mean catastrophe.
