What are you working on right now?

Still here! (Promise I'm not gonna keep flaking and disappearing for weeks).

So I have finally a) got a new laptop which works and doesn't sound like a jet engine and burn like a nuclear reactor and b) sat down and started to (tentatively) plan out the first of my fantasy series, likely to be a trilogy. Tentative title is The Menagerist. It's about scientists and dragons and kind of X-Men esque (without the superhero element) results of human experimentation - and, of course, with a menagerie thrown in. Now I just need to start it, of course...

I'm plugging away on my SF book, but I have a long way to go. It just feels good to be in a sort of groove on it. I hope I keep it up and spend more time on it than I have been.

Odd day, yesterday. Reached a natural break point with something and had an hour to go, so I tried writing a Sir Edric short (some success) and lazily messed about with a second piece, which appears much funnier.

I have therefore concluded the less effort applied, the greater the quality of writing. I'm taking today off, and eagerly await the 134,000 word epic masterpiece I will have undoubtedly finished by this evening :p

Sent off my approval and request for changes to my editor for Railroad Rising and I've chosen the excerpt for my publicist but I need to hear back from her as to how long it should be.
I have my Isaac & Lee comic script with my comics editor for first review and waiting to hear back from him.
I'm procrastinating on getting back to my other script for Grotto of Poppies while my mind is forming a rough outline of yet a different story that's working title is called Tedieval.
Then there is the sequel to Railroad Rising that is also percolating in my mind which I plan to start working on after the first book launches.
So many plates spinning!

Toying with two shorts for a submission.... A short documenting the event what went down before my novel which resulted in mass death/survivors living underground. And another with a more sci-fi military tone, Telling the tale of a single surviving Tank crew stranded on a hostile planet.

Writing my first book, a wet navy military SF story mostly set on an alien planet. It's called The Hammer of God for now and I'm happy with the title. The first draft is finally finished, but that is not truly accurate. The first third has been re-edited several times, as has several other parts of the story, but now going through the whole manuscript from the very start. I have changed my mind on some things, so they will have to be rewritten as I go through it. I decided to save one or two of my 'sacrificial lambs' characters and I have to flesh out more story elements and characters.

Hey Stuart, welcome to Chrons. Rewrites. Sigh. If you haven't already, you will learn to hate them. But it's all part of the process. When you get 30 post up, feel free to drop and excerpt onto the crits site; if you want some feedback.

Had a break from rewriting/editing and wrote a short story, don't know where it came from and God knows why, but it is a western (I'm British). Three Texans ride into a New Mexico town to wait for a fast gun to appear. I haven't said how they knew he would be there, I didn't think it was necessary. Ends with shoot out, 2 on 1. I just need a little edit on the Le Mat revolver. Don't know where to publish or whether to publish it at all.

I thought there was a thread like this, but I've searched back and the only one I could find was 'What do we all write?' which isn't really what I mean.

So, this'll be interesting. We all like talking about ourselves...

What are you working on, writing wise, right now. It can be editing, research, short stories, novel, comp entries. Anything you're working on, I want to hear about. As long as it's related to writing. If you're fixing your car or something, I don't care.

At the moment I'm mostly working on the revisions from the publisher with allmywires, but when I'm not doing that, I'm working on my Allery story.

More specific? Today, I had to add more kink to the romance. The publisher liked a certain scene we had, but wanted more pre-scene stuff. So it meant I had to put a weird search thing into Google. I won't share. :D But I ended up adding almost 400 words.

With my Allery story I'm currently researching lots of drug abuse stuff. One of my characters is a junkie. I was watching a vid on YouTube about a guy in prison going through withdrawals and learning about how the veins in your arms kinda disappear.

Your turn.
The second (long) sequel to my first book and a short story.

Editing a new version of "The Solar Alliance", might sub it. It's got spying, conspiracies, military, the Aliens that hope the locals will sort themselves and SF.
Started a story I said I'd never write, A Super Hero / Urban Fantasy sort of thing. It was going to be a spoof, like Mystery men. But it seems not. "Quadrivium Genie-Sys". I left an e off in the thread. Never mind. If you are rubbish super-heroes, does no harm that the local "Alternate" crowd (Werewolves, Fey, Earth people, a visiting Vampire etc) think you are Changelings and inclinded to help you against the Aliens (which they think are daemons or Jinn, one even owns Genie-Sys Tech company.).

Hello. I'm still new here but am finding this a very inspiring site.

I'm travelling for work this week so serious writing may be out, but I'm trying to finish a short story (low fantasy/horror-esque story which I should probably finish for Halloween!) and am plotting the follow on to the first novel I wrote and finished earlier this year. While at the same time contemplating not writing a sequel but doing something completely different instead.

Must focus!

I am gearing up to the Kindle launch of the novel. I've been handing out bookmarks at events I'm at and I've created a Project Wonderful campaign to run for the week leading up to the launch. I'll be happy once the book has launched and I can get back to writing!

I've taken a break from writing short, slice-of-life stories and taken some time to write a few reviews/analyses of some things I've had in mind for a while now.

I'm on the second draft on an Epic Fantasy novel which consists mostly (almost exclusively) of females. It wasn't entirely intentional. My story and world's context just made it a necessity.

Editing is an arduous process, far more than I would have thought. :(

Gnomes novel (written in 2012, just tarting it up), Martian book cover, and something vaguely Cajun involving andaouille sausage, shrimp and a ton of chilli (and I'm not quite sure if it has a name beyond hot sausage and shrimp surprise or whatever).

Embrace it, love it, kick back, put on some music and have fun with it. Editing is definitely arduous, but it's the real meat of the writing experience. Sink your teeth into it and relish the opportunity. Many people lack the imagination and/or willpower to even finish one story, so you have already passed the most difficult challenge. Feel good about editing and look to it as a chance to improve both the story and your skills. It's a challenge; make it a game and celebrate the victory of developing those improvements.

:)

I'm writing the second novel in my series, and it's a lot of fun. Writing the second one seems easier and more enjoyable than the first, and (after months of editing, trying to sell, opting for self-publishing) it feels fantastic to be doing the really creative part again.

The first part had a completely different structure and more limited settings (on purpose), whereas the second has a global setting and covers a longer span of time. My writing experience is therefore much different this time, and it is very exciting. There are also a few new characters, and finally working with them is very rewarding. The characters are more important than anything (IMHO), and their interactions are really the heart of the book.

You know Mitch, those comments of yours could have popped right out of my head. Therefore I couldn't agree more. (y)
