What are you working on right now?

I'm rewriting a story I'd began in January of 2013 while also building its world from scratch and sending my Australian friend questions that prove I need sleep, like "What if you had a cat but instead of meowing he screamed like a lady in a horror movie" or "what if your smokes talked to you" or simply "what if iguana named god".

How about an iguana god who smokes talking cigs, while screaming like a lady in a horror movies, as your wife!

Keep that train a rolling. Try, if you haven't already, to give it to an English major, or teacher, etc...They can really help.
Got a friend in the US who edits papers for his university, he had a look over the summer. However, a series of unfortunate events (see what I... yeah) hindered his progress through most of the summer. By the time he was finished with it, it was the end of September, and we hadn't been able to do back and forth editing as we'd planned. At that point, his academic year began again. That said, he helped an immense amount, and often more artistically than linguistically.

This weekend I was editing a video that I'm going to be posting on my father's site to promote his work. The next step will be writing a script for the video to add in some details to keep the video interesting.
This will be balanced with researching the sequel to my father's novel and working on comics, both the illustrating and script writing.
The research involves the evolution of machines and the physics of how they would work with applied magic.
I'm currently working on three different comic projects, one webcomic, one graphic novel and one regular comic, all in different genres.

Hi there.

I'm currently trying my hand at fantasy novel. If I should happen to talk about it, I'll call it "Banasuni". The basic idea is "barbarians against philosophers". The barbarians are the "good guys", of course. At the moment its going rather slowly.
I was inspired by, of all things, terrorists. So I wrote over 2k words in a short story in one clip. It's about how a future terrorist Commander is captured and sexually tortured using his religions greatest heresies against him. It's might be at times considered graphic in nature, and maybe unbelievable, but I had fun writing it. The gloves came off on this one, hopefully, not too much. It was still fun to write!

Galaxy, which I'm revising, is coming together. @HareBrain, as ever, was right and I have now embedded the story in the daughter's pov (it had a shared mother/daughter narrative). I've really struggled with it, so I'm pleased, and I'm hoping to get it drafted by the time Sunset over Abendau is back to me for editing and shoehorn back to Kare et al nicely. :)

Then I have to decide whether to seek an agent with it (thuds head) or continue my own merry way.

Although more meta-work than proper work, yesterday I came up with a general plan to try and dovetail the progress I'm making with Traitor's Prize (sequel to Kingdom Asunder, itself not out yet) with finishing off Sir Edric's Kingdom, and then working on the fourth Sir Edric story.

Unfortunately that means little time to work on something completely new (short stories aside), but hopefully having a comedy series and trilogy over the next couple of years will help create a head of steam.

I did outline Plague's plot some months ago, but there's a significant dilemma over a major part of the story I need to decide upon. Hmm. It's a knotty one.

I don't recall saying that, but I'm happy to hoover up the credit if it turns out well (which I hope it does).

Is this the one that also needed a SPAAAAAAAAAAACE TRRRIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIPPPP?

Funny how we look to the future for our work, no matter what stage our MS is at. I think it's because we plan for our characters so try to get our lives to follow the same pattern! Pity there isn't an agent that follows any form of tactic we can adhere too - and make our lives easier.

A recent conference advised it's all about luck. Meh to that.

Finished a second short and kicked it off into the world. That's three out there cogging up slushpiles. I've two House on the Borderland interviews to get done, I want to have a bash at a script and then there's the first draft on Shiney New Novel, and another short with a deadline of Jan 31st.

A dreamers work is never done :D

Read something recently about brute luck and optional luck. Brute luck is the family you happen to be born into, and that sort of thing (ie you can't do anything about it). Optional luck is when you're fortunate, but that happens at least in part because you've taken action to improve your chances (like working hard as an apprentice and then getting a job offer).

I wouldn't consider getting a job 'lucky' in any way.. what? Working for a rich person, for less than you're really worth, to make them even richer? Burning up the best days & years of your life? Nah. The sort of optional luck worthy of the name, is when you set out to do your own thing, regardless of the opinion of others.. & it all works out famously! Having set out to do just that, ten years ago, I have experienced another sort of luck, 'No Such Luck' & find myself with a Court appearance, tomorrow, defending myself, as I cannot afford a lawyer; which if I lose, will leave me bankrupt, jobless & homeless, just in time for Christmas Holidays.. yay! Still, it will give me more time to write...
A better sort of optional luck, is when you find you have helped to create two amazing children. Wow! What luck is that? Both, lovers of Sci-Fi, to boot. Count your blessings they say & that's easy, right now.. one, two.

Sorry, Thaddeus, I realise I may have appeared a bit rude to you there & I never meant to be, yours was just an example, after all. Hope you don't mind?

I know about hearings on a misdemeanor. Too bad a public defender did not work out. Mine is still in progress.

jobless & homeless
Done that bit, with 4 kids, wife and baby. Totally unexpected. Also no welfare as I was a "foreigner". Fortunately some friends found us somewhere to stay free, others gave a mix of money and food. Eventually was sent airline tickets.

I hope things work out. Actually it being "Christmas" is neither here nor there but being cold and hungry is the biggie.

Thanks for the thoughts. Appreciate them. Hey Tim, good luck on that one! No 'Legal Aid' here any more. You're right Ray, trust things are good now for you? Yes, Jo, can't help thinking there's going to be some great material for a dark, slow-burning, anti-hero come out of this though...

Good luck james. Ive been bankrupt, at risk of losing our home a couple years ago, with 4 kids, two of them babies. Its scary. Hope it all works out for you.

On the working on front- Liberator is getting another run through now, then it is off to the incredibly kind and talented @TheDustyZebra for proffesional editing. Then when she has coloured it in red pen and notes, it'll be final rerun with any corrections and changes and then... Even more work! Hurray for being a writer! Feels so good to be at this stage though.

Best of luck, James.

Thanks for the support all. Good news, is I have a lifeline, a business & a home still! Whew.
This thread should really get back on track though, I did not mean to hijack it..

So, I am still working on my Space Opera-style novel. I have about 28,000 words done & pretty much got them how I want them. Things are getting serious & there's some action about to kick off that will eclipse the early 'dust-ups'. Going to enjoy this part.
