What are you working on right now?

Early stages of a new novel. I'd forgotten how wondrous it is when the characters know more about the story, and where it's going, than I do. I've learnt to trust them. I can sort it all out later.

I'm working on my new thing - coming up to the 10 k mark, which isn't bad. But I'm frustrated. I set it in a place I visited this summer - Glenveagh Castle, in Co Donegal - and now I need to know all sorts of things about it. Like does it close in really awful weather. And how the steps around a particular area are laid out. I really need to go back for another visit, but things are too tight moneywise to do so. :( For now, I'm leaving lots of notes for myself to come back to.
If you find out which body runs it, you should be able to contact them for the answers to at least some of your questions.

Pondering whether to stick with the editing morass or take a time out to write something new and reset the mind a little.

I'm looking at adapting an episode from my background project Western for submission to the forthcoming Third Flatiron anthology by giving it a Steampunk angle.

So remember that time when the 89k novel you drafted five years ago (apr 13th 2012 according to the word count thread over in the Workshop) needs to be rethought because you watched the trailer for the new Jennifer Lawrence film? Right down to the robot bartender character!

The premise is identical, though from the trailer it looks like Hollywood has Hollywooded it up with danger and explosions, whereas my draft is more introspective and dark. But I still need to rethink it:sick:

In fairness, since you reserve a solid five minutes of any Chrons meet up for gushing about how great HareBrain's opus is, I did kind of already know... ;)

Clearly I'll just have to get you drunk, shove the fantasy manuscript under your nose and tell you "No no, its horror really, honest" :p

My heart goes out to you. I think this would be my worst nightmare!

Ha! Well, to mitigate I've just had a mosey over to the Critiques forum. :D

That's bad luck and you have my commisserations. Have the same issue with a long contemporary fantasy except real life caught up - wrote it years ago and have updated it a few times to keep the technology contemporary but it features, among other contemporary happenings, mass migration into Europe though not due to wars etc ....
