What are you working on right now?

I got final fantasy 15 for Xmas, and I'm not allowed to play it until march :(

A self imposed rule, taking a lot of discipline, but I dropped more than halved my day job hours for a reason, so to make it all worth it I have to write instead.(y) ...:cautious: ...

Good call, because once you start you aren't going to want to stop. FFXV is soooo good.

Computer games truly are the work of the devil, sent to test us all.

I am doing tolerably well at resisting the siren call right now and am actually editing. I'm even near to finishing this chunk. Unfortunately in doing so I realised I needed a new chapter. Oops?

You know its a quiet month when you're replying to yourself a fortnight down the line.

Anyway, I discovered a technique to help writing action scenes... bottle in your own need to urinate to create an extra sense of urgency, which you hopefully impart to the characters.

Ha, well, I've been faffing about with technical stuff mostly trying to sort out a paperback version of Kingdom Asunder (more work than I expected). Proof copy is on the way, so if that's ok then it'll be out shortly thereafter.

In a slightly awkward spot because, through no fault of their own, my beta readers for Traitor's Prize aren't able to do anything for it for a while. So, if anyone would like to beta read the fantastic sequel to Kingdom Asunder (which has juicy five star ratings on both US and UK Amazon), do let me know (either in this thread or by direct message).

I've started the rewrite of THE CURSED MAN, and am about 16,000 words into that. Some of the text from the original manuscript I copy directly, with minimal changes. Other parts require more extensive rewriting and tweaking to better reflect how things changed during the rough draft.

I'm hoping to have the whole thing done in early March, though :)

I'm a few chapters into the second volume of a YA SF adventure series. I rarely stick to one genre and I've never written a series, so this is a new experience. My inclination is to make book 2 very different, but my instincts tell me to stick to the same formula as the first. I managed to get an agent who is shopping book 1, so I want another up my sleeve, otherwise I would be working on a long-planned serial killer thriller.

So much to write, so little time...

@Steve Harrison That's awesome, congratulations on getting this far.

I've been working on a web serial for some months as an exercise in world building and inventiveness. It's got a (very) small following and has been a really nice experience, but I'm about ready to draw it to a close. I'd like to keep the writing momentum going and try to write a more conventional story. Ideally to get published someday, but I know I've got some skills to build up first.

Thanks, Stable, and well done to you, too. This writing lark is a long drawn out process, but with every word written we add to our skills.

Slightly rejigging the way I work, so weekdays will be on larger projects (mostly The Bloody Crown Trilogy) and on weekends I'll try and get more short stories done. Hoping to submit more to Kraxon and elsewhere this year, after a fallow 2016.

Stable - What's the web serial?

I'm currently editing the interview I did with Harebrain. It might need splitting in two.

Big Peat - It's a quasi imaginary news service/pretend encyclopedia of the weird. I don't want to say too much because I got a really nice warning from the admins for self-promoting before 100 posts earlier, and I'm not exactly sure where the boundary is. I assume just talking about it in general terms is OK.

Is Harebrain a well known member here? What are your interviews about?

Could you please PM me? I'm curious.

And Harebrain is a well known member, aye. The interview is about his new book and a whole bunch of other things.

Oh, and a belated welcome to the forum for you Stable.

More Space Captain Smith 6: The Pincers of Death. It's a shame that comedy isn't respected more as a literary form because writing it is really hard, much harder than writing the sprawling fantasy novel that I've been chipping away at for a while. Telling a story and fitting in jokes that aren't universally bad is extremely difficult, especially if you want the story to work in itself. A good comedy is basically a good book with good jokes, and that's not easy.

So that has been going a little slower than I'd like, although it is definitely getting there. The fantasy novel is coming along well, even though the early part where you set the scene and make things go wrong has given way to the more difficult part when characters get together and solve their problems.

As well as that, for years I've wanted to write a very simple tabletop game, a sort of Heroquest without a board. I have finally started working it out, putting updates on the modelmaking blog I write to force myself to continue.

I'm not exactly sure where the boundary is. I assume just talking about it in general terms is OK.

That's fine. Basically, no links, no title, no obvious encouragement to get people to search for it. Once you hit 100 posts, go nuts.

Is Harebrain a well known member here?

I couldn't possibly comment.

Working on something new. It has Alchemy! Explosions! Dancing! Wicked Beauties! Dastardly Plans!

It's also explicitly a romance (not an explicit romance, or not very) and I'm enjoying it more than I've enjoyed anything for ages.

I'm enjoying it too ;)

Good Lord. I swear, the router hates me, my laptop hates me, Windows 10 hates me and I'm sure the mods now hate me too.

(this was another duplicate post in case the above rant wasn't clear)

Quite right, Toby. Many, many more people should buy fantasy/sci-fi comedy. It's got to have all the ingredients of other fantasy/sci-fi books and be consistently funny throughout without repeating the same jokes.

Chinese year of the Rooster soon. I already have my "why not buy a book about a massive cock" tweet for Sir Edric planned.

Oh, and I'm currently doing some Bloody Crown Trilogy redrafting.
