What are you working on right now?

Had one a dem 'piphanies last night for a new novel.
I'm letting it settle for a bit, before I launch in.
I'm at that stage of writing (a long time coming!) where I plan a novel rather than pants it.
No more pantsing!

Still pantsing here. I get really bored when I follow an outline. Although I find that I run myself into a corner at times.

I'm 26k into a WIP that promises to grow and grow. It's about a magical hammer, but when I put it like that, it sounds so incredibly stupid. Really, I'm exploring the concept of a muse through a sculptor's hammer that allows him to carve into extra dimensions. I've been working on it for about a month and I'm simply giddy about it. Taking it slow and really trying to get it to sparkle.

LOL well regular dreams. Sometimes it's like I am sitting watching a movie. It's a little weird and I can never be sure if it's something I've heard or something my own mind came up with

Writing an essay on the Lovecraft Circle and the Inklings (Tolkien, Lewis, Williams). It's about 14,000 words so far.

Right now I'm struggling. The first chapter is pretty good, but I don't know how to expand on it. The introduction has one of my main characters having to go on a trading mission to another dimension so he can marry his girlfriend. Interracial marriages are forbidden in his country.

I want other things to happen. Just don't know what. However I do know that I want to stay away from "We Have to Save the World" cliche.

Do you know how the story ends? It's often said that endings are hard, so get your ending first, and then work backwards to see how everyone gets there.
No I don't. In my first story I did and I didn't have this problem. Right now all I know is one of my main characters gets married and the bad guy (who isn't created yet) gets defeated.

Thanks for the question and suggestion. I will work on it. For some reason it makes sense.

You need cats.

Every story is made better with cats.

;)
I like cats and I know which character to give it to. It will add a little more dimension to him and may contribute to some plotting. Thanks for the idea.

By the way, how do get the smilies? I tried clicking on the toolbar and nothing happens.

Clicking on the emoji face on the task bar should bring all the available ones up. You can also do a smiley by typing a colon : followed immediately by a closing bracket ) .

:)

I solidified all character intros and clearly defined the stakes by the end of Chapter 3. Now working on fleshing out the romantic portions of chapter 4.

Big step yesterday. I deleted forever everything I've been trying to write for years. Four mid size novels, all at first draft stage about 20000 words apiece, plus loads and loads of notes with them. My big space opera with umpteen chapters, most of them totally unrelated to each other but I was always gonna go back to them. Finally several half done short stories and ideas/ plotlines.
Been playing with these for years but it became tedious.
Sigh of relief when they vanished into cyberspace, I'm happier being a voracious reader!
Only writing I ever intend doing from now on is occasional entries in the comps in here.
I don't look on this as failure, I look on it as cleaning out the attic
