Well would you look at that, you all seem to be settling in very well, enjoying the conga no less. Please, take a break from all that energy, come sit by me as I introduce some more of our illustrious guests.

What is this? Some kind of cult? No I assure you we are nothing of the sort, now try some of those lovely Blue Oysters...

TSP - What a wonderful tale, that can be taken one way but is given an extra depth by the use of an imaginative and inventive technique. People may well believe that can hear voices after reading this creative masterpiece.

Karn - It is such a lovely idea, it really is. The thought that death, in whatever form might have some family, that losing them might indeed be painful to one such as him. It is very true though, that no matter who passes they must be taken by someone close to them, or a stranger.

DEO - I love the idea of this, Death packing his bags and going on holiday. If death stops working to people stop dying? Alas no, I fear we all find in the end, that a holiday it, is a busman’s one. You see the thing is, death is relentless. It never stops.

SB - A timely reminder I do believe that death is not just for everybody, but for everything that walks or crawls. If it breaths, lives death will come in the end. Although it might seem cruel to poor little creatures, millions die each day. I would know. Please note my most welcome of guests that the harming of bats, even talking ones is a criminal offence in the United Kingdom, the animals used in this story were not ahrmed in it’s making. (Except the cockroach.)

HB - The old classic of hunting down those things that are so special that they might be able to answer the bigger of life, and deaths, questions. Of course some of those questions really should not be answered and nature or whatever has a way of making sure the answers are not discovered. It can also be rather amusing.

Johnnyjet - War. What is it good for? Absolutely nothing. Well it gives a good story, and keeps some of us busy. But it changes men, makes them realise what is important and to fight and fight andd fght. The enemy. Each other. And for life right to the bitter end.

Wazkal - The funny thing is that people often mistake the end of humanity for the end of the world. Mostly no matter what man might do to it or to the species, it is more than likely the world will go on quite happily. All the dead, all the echoes of the past are just incidental.

Tisiphone - Jealousy, greed. I see these things on so many faces. It drives people more than you would believe. It makes no difference evryone dies in the end, and you would be amazed how often justice is served.

Well my friends you seem to be becoming more comfortable around here. Soon you won't want a little old man like me here cramping your style. I shall leave now and see how you get on without me, but shoud you require me just whistle.

Gracious, what a varied lot of stories. This month may be the hardest to judge ever. All the way from hilarious, to murderous. I probably shouldn't have read these. My own story pales in comparison.

Ty Starbeast, you're fab as always!

You're very welcome Springs, and thank you.

Thank you for the review, Starbeast!

You're welcome Teresa Edgerton.

Thanks for the great review Starbeast.

Absolutely Farntfar.

Starbeast, thank you for your review. :)

You're welcome Juliana.

A dark chocolate treat? Hmmm... an interesting description Starbeast. One I like too. Good lad.

You got it Bowler1. Keep em' flying.

Perpetual Man: Well would you look at that, you all seem to be settling in very well, enjoying the conga no less. Please, take a break from all that energy, come sit by me as I introduce some more of our illustrious guests.

Hey Perpetual Man, it's a pleasure to see you reviewing again, my friend. A very nice surprise indeed.

What is this? Some kind of cult? No I assure you we are nothing of the sort, now try some of those lovely Blue Oysters...

No oinker parts for me thanks, I'm driving.

SB - A timely reminder I do believe that death is not just for everybody, but for everything that walks or crawls. If it breaths, lives death will come in the end.

Absolutely. Even plants don't live forever.

Although it might seem cruel to poor little creatures, millions die each day. I would know.

Yes. I, being an animal lover/owner knows it well too. I've had many types of pets. Rabbits, fish, dogs, hamster, guinea pig, birds, spiders and, I even feed wild birds and a friendly squirrel (I named Peanuts) that visits often (I feed him peanuts).

Please note my most welcome of guests that the harming of bats, even talking ones is a criminal offence in the United Kingdom, the animals used in this story were not harmed in it’s making. (Except the cockroach.)

Bats are cherished here too. We need them to keep munching on mosquito hordes.

Well my friends you seem to be becoming more comfortable around here.

I'm definately relaxed today, on my day off. I hope you're taking it easy as well.

Soon you won't want a little old man like me here cramping your style.

Nonsense, I love chatting with people who've been around a long time. They have more interesting stuff to talk about. Better than tv.

I shall leave now and see how you get on without me, but shoud you require me just whistle.

See you pal. Nice to know, you're only a whistle away. Thank you for your colorful review. I'm looking forward to what you will put together.

Don't sweat it. You've got a great "track record" in posting some very fine tales. But, there's still lots of time to retouch, or (IF you want) try another idea.

And I do agree, there are already three pages of excellent stories.

For me, I never compare anything I write to anyone else's work. That's like comparing Oranges to orangutans, or, airplanes to apples. to me.

If it makes you feel more comfortable, just take your time bro.

Thanks for kind words Starbeast. I appreciate them. I decided to post, because I thought it was my kind of story. I like it, but I don't know how others will compare it. It might well seem woefully simple. But then simple stories are remembered the longest.:)

Thanks Teresa! I always value your opinion highly! (T.E. and I posted simultaneously)

Parson: Thanks for kind words Starbeast. I appreciate them.

You're welcome.

I decided to post, because I thought it was my kind of story.

Great. You've stuck to your original story.

I like it, but I don't know how others will compare it.

Never worry about comparisons. What's important is that you feel good about it.

It might well seem woefully simple. But then simple stories are remembered the longest.:)

That is very true. For example, Perpetual Man submitted an entry, that had only one word. And it said a lot to me. I voted for it.

Keep the faith brother Parson. ;)

(Teresa enjoyed your story, and I can't wait to read it)

Thanks, Beasty, for another overly generous review. BTW, if you want a job as a sound effects man, I know a guy.

You're welcome Telford.

Ironally, I can make sound effects with my voice (especially making the sound of "sawing wood", it always perplexes people), and mimic almost any cartoon voice (kid's love it when I sound like Spongebob, Patrick, Mr Crabs & Squidward). Too bad my talent is useless in a job interview.

Thank you, Victoria and Prep for the reads and reviews. I haven't been around in a while (pesky college assignments and even more pesky work), hopefully now I will be able to become a more active member of the forums again.

Unless you're going for a job voicing cartoons...

It's the 8th of the month and 34 entries already! Great choice of them, I'd say, and the variedness of the entries is terrific.

Don't go overboard yet, Every month has a big bump at the start, followed by a period where there are very few who are neither impatient enough to want instant results (or to be allowed to read the other entries), nor nit-picking enough to leave the potential for editing until the last possible second. I suppose it is only to be expected that these 'moderates' (rarely moderators) would be a minority.

And the first wave dries up a lot of our 'utterly regular' contributors (apart from the utterly regular procra– perfectionists).

Not that there isn't potential for a record. From the beginning of these challenges three hundred and fifty (all right, 349. I exaggerated.) members have submitted. Can you imagine the month if they all voted? (I don't want to imagine the month if they all wrote; voting's hard enough for me at the best of times). And I'm trying to make sure all newcomers who introduce themselves at least know where we are.

Although I imagine the moderators would take pity on us and give us three votes, at the very least. Maybe even five.:eek:;)

If we did have that many entries I would pack my bags and leave. The comments alone would kill me. (Not to mention writing my own entry - got it down in principle, but it's not quite there yet, and a short story that need to be dealt with after someone put a lot of red marks through it ;) :D)

Well more exactly they would kill Mort as he has been kind enough to do them for me this month. But whether he could be killed is another matter entirely. (I'm quite glad everyone has responded so well to him/it). I always used to have fun doing odd things with the comments as some of the longer term contributors may well remember, so to come at it from another angle again is very refreshing.

Well, even if Mort is immortal, it would be mortifying for you.

Right, two ideas, don't know which one is more promising yet, but they are in agreement on one thing - Death is definitely female. After all, is it women who fall in love with her?
