Karn, I know the feeling. Typing on my phone or my kindle is okay for posting quick messages, but I'd hate trying to write a 300 worder on either.

had to look up ogun tree. found it has to do with vodoun..

In all fairness, the object of this picture seems to reference the Green Man and Blacksmith elements of western lore.

Ogun is lord of the deep woods, technology and healing and is indeed from the voudoun tradition. That's what first came to mind for me, but that's just my tradition interpreting.

That's what immediately came to mind for me the first time I saw the picture.

But thank you for sharing a bit of the vodoun tradition with us -- that should add considerable richness to the range of interpretations.

African always was a weak point in mythology for me, as is Eastern Asian and Native American...


But I think I should be able to play my strengths here...

I wasn't thinking totem pole at all. Does it help, peeps, to think of it as a desecrated tree? That is how I see it...

It's whatever people see, Karn. The individual elements of the picture or the picture as a whole, and then however they want to interpret it.

(When we had the rocket ship a year or two ago, the first thing that came to my mind was a Christmas tree, so that's what I wrote about that month.)
