Discussion Thread -- 300 Word Challenge #13

Very nice story, AFW! Sorry about the word-count issue, I would love to have seen how many votes you would have gotten! Word-counting=paranoia for me, and I bet others here too (especially with the 300 word Challenge!). :(

I've just looked at the poll and realised that I got a vote. Thank you, HareBrain. Also, thank you for the listing, TDZ.

I'm sorry I didn't vote; I had earmarked Starbeast's story as a definite vote, and intended to re-read the other stories to select my other votes, but I had a couple of weeks during which i was a bit miserable* and the challenges of work and study made me feel as if my head was likely to explode.

*Actually, more than a bit

Gordon Bennett! I looked to see if Springs had won after the end of play on the 15th and didn't check my own column - now I see I've been very remiss in not thanking Harebrain and Ursa Major for those wonderful votes. This is my best showing for ages so thank you so much for that. :)

thanks ursa. fourth ain't too bad

springs, i take your point about the capital after the semi - missed that in editing and i know you cross off grammatical errors like that straight away. the overuse of semi-colons was meant to show the fragmented thoughts of a delusional and slightly insane killer. guess that didn't work

saw that chrispy posted in the improving thread so off there now

I enjoyed your story Mr Orange, I even gave it an honorable mention. When I judge a tale in a challenge, I always look beyond any grammatical errors and typos, because I'm a repeat offender of typos and other errors. So I understand it happens.

And never feel down about not getting a vote. Many of us have had that happen in challenges, and that goes for non-mentions too. When it hapeenes to me, I shrug my shoulders and usually say, "Ah well, it's not my month." Then I look forward to the next month.

However, sometimes people here want to get advice or critiques about their stories or about story writing. That can be helpful when a person is in doubt. There are people here that will be happy to help others who have questions.

Keep up the good work, and see you around the site my friend. :)

This wouldn't have beaten Springs wonderful tale, but as promised, here's my story that didn't make it.

I edited it after I posted it, resulting in 300+ words, and the word counter I used let me down indicating it was at 300. It appears that I have misplaced the pre-edit version. Manual count your stories, kids. :)

Excellent tale A. Fare Wells. I would have definately given it a chance on my "Finalist List". I felt sympathy for Kris, the robot. He was very brave.

I'm looking forward to a new story of yours in the next challenges.

I hope you get some needed time-off to relax TitaniumTi.

No worries about not being here. Thanks for letting me know, that you would have given me a vote. It's the thought that counts. And you made my day. :D Thanks again.

Today I got a lovely copy of Francis Knight's Fade To Black which I've been meaning to read for a while, courtesy of the Chrons, so another very big thanks to everyone who voted/listed my evil little serial killer. :)

A good choice springs, I've just finished it and really enjoyed it.

Been busy recently, less time here has meant more words in my book. Forgot to say congrats to springs... Congratulations! :D your 300 is brilliant! :)

Congrats Springs!
Also, thank you Judge for the vote! I only saw it now after voting has closed, but it made my day. :)

As I'm new to all this and I can't find a better place to ask; how often are these held? This looked like fun.

Excellent, thanks, I'll keep an eye out and hopefully be able to think of something to enter.
