Discussion Thread -- 300 Word Challenge #13

Right now, I haven't a clue what my story will be about. Not a clue. But I haven't given up hope that a story will occur to me at some point. I've got almost a whole month.

I'm in the same boat as you Teresa, I'm listing some ideas, most seem unworkable. But, we've got time. And you do come up with some cool stories. Thanks again for the info

Be thankful we didn't pick any of the alternatives...

In addition it sports a spiral shell, a snail, an enormous and dangerous-looking hook, chains, door handles, latches, bows, an arrow, a bladed weapon, a wizened hand, a candlestick, leaves, curlicues, and several mysterious objects which could be anything we want them to be. Plenty of detail for inspiration, we hope -- to me the face is a Green Man, but it could equally be an android or a witch/wizard imprisoned by a vengeful blacksmith -- but also there's the overall concept of a totem others have picked up, or of a smith's work generally.

So, good story-hunting everyone.

Hi Judge.

I don't think I want to know about what was disgarded as pictures for the 300 challenge. Besides, the April photo is becoming very agreeable with me. I'm cool with it.

I like the way you described the photo, you sound like you're selling a fine automobile. I'm looking forward to see your stories for both challenges.

I'm fighting the urge to read the 75 challange tales.

And I'm still excited about winning last month's 75. Yippee! :D

I can virtually guarantee no one else is seeing this pole in the same way I am. I think it's a great picture, actually, loads to do with it. But, as ever, for me it's about the character whose story includes it, and once I get to the character and not the picture, then it can open up to anyone's story. (I sometimes wonder where in my head they all reside.:D)

I sometimes wonder where in my head they all reside.

There's a pit. At the back. That's where mine dwell. :)

Tale done, roll on the 10th.

I suppose a picture could be an April Fool's Joke and still be the actual inspiration picture for the Challenge. But not this month. (Something to think about for the future.)

I took a look into the dark space at the back of my mind for this one and saw nothing. Then, as I started to turn away, a thin, wraith-like arm shot out of the black, curling around my wrist. I pulled back in shock, and something came with me...

My story is written. It waits for the tenth...

Speaking of brains and 300 word stories (we were weren't we?)

I got a brain seed today and it grew into a brain plant, eventually I harvested the brain fruit and made various brain jams and a brain tart... Then I thought I should probably stop poking things in my ears, so I wrote my 300 entry! :)
Come on April 10th!!!

April the 30th. Are thirty days such a long time to wait? What could possibly happen in twenty nine days?

Bowler1 smiles. And saunters off into the sunset....

The stories in the dark space at the back of my brain are fighting now. The two strongest are squaring up to each other as I write this.

Yikes! First draft is over 1,000 words! I don't know if this is even possible now...to get down to 300. It will be fun/stressful to try though! Hope everyone is doing well, and looking forward to the RUSH of stories on the 10th! :)

Wow CC, it sounds like you've made yourself a 300-worder trilogy :D

Good luck with the edit! :)

I get so attached to my words, that I have to keep myself from going too far beyond the limit, otherwise the edit becomes excruciating for me. I'm dreading editing my book

:) That's very funny, Remedy (the trilogy), I laughed! Have a great day, CC

ps--would they accept that, a trilogy now, if I promised not to post the next two 300 Challenges?? :)

pps--oh yes, each word is dear! I am crushed losing a few words for the 75-worder...how much you must love each word in your book! :)

:) Sounds like a good idea, springs!!

My wife is excited about the Challenges, and she suffered with me in the 75 +5er. I think she may deserve flowers after I have finally whittled this beast down to the proper word count! :)

Story shortening in four easy steps:
1) Remove all phrases after quotes or thoughts. Example: "Ouch!" he said. vs "Ouch!"
2) Delete the following words: "A", "I", "and", "but", "or", "the"
3) Replace all visual descriptions with the word "red"
4) Replace all descriptions of action with the word "loudly"

Apply these highly artistic rules and VOILA! You will have an award winning challenge story.

Okay, now I'm bummed...what you have described actually sounds like a better story than what I'm currently working on. :)

I suspect though that I can use several of these award-winning techniques, so thanks much!! :)
