Discussion thread -- SEVENTY-FIVE WORD WRITING CHALLENGE May 2014

:) Well, classic sci-fi is my all-time fave genre, TDZ, so this one came naturally! And I did have an idea yesterday, that worked out well for the challenge. But oy, I fret over word count!!

And also, I fret over counting words...I counted this at least ten times. Is anyone else worried/horrified that they might lose the ability to count exactly when they begin counting their Challenge entries? :) I think I am fine though at exactly 75.

And I have every confidence that you will come up with a wonderful story, TDZ! Your 300-worder is terrific, really-really a fine story! Tomorrow I think I will re-read all the entries there, and vote. Great stories so far everyone, here in the 75 worder! I'm very happy the genre/theme choice seems to be popular ones! Best of luck all, and now I can relax, I am soo glad to have my story in! Have a great night, TDZ! CC

Hopefully our resident Parson will agree with my sentiments this month. :) nice theme. No Roasted Mr Staypuffed. Huzzah!

Never fear. A story is a story. And a story tells the truth but sometimes it tells it in a fictional way. I believe your story has a truth to tell and I'm happy to have read it.

I'm sorry but I had to.

Sounds like what the wife said later.:p:D

Alien Invasion? Classic Science Fiction? Are you reading my mind?

Wow.....a Cat and a Zebra know my thoughts.

Yipes! And a hand full of stories already!

Well, first things first. I need to make my list and vote in the 300.

Then, think of a story for May 75. I don't doubt the Zebra and the Cat posted already.

The Cat posted already. The Zebra is going to dither around for 22 1/2 more days. :D

:) That's very funny, farntfar! Really 'captures' us (to use an invasion-type word!). As someone who slept 3 hours last night, I will mention that I LOLd at the line about sleep, very nice story!

Wow, well I never thought I could actually manage to write a story in 75 words, but I did it! Great choice of theme/genre CC. And congrats to you and TDZ on the shared win; both great stories!

Thank you, Storyteller! :) I really enjoyed your 75 worder! (And it is hard to get down to the 75-word limit, isn't it? I find my stories are much better at 83 words!:))

I thought your story was terrific too, Aun! Really captured the era perfectly!! :)

The challenges are always hit and miss, every month...what is a hit for some is a terrible miss for others. I'm in the terrible miss category here. All I can even start to think up without getting to a total loss here is Bradbury...maybe pushing into thoughts on War of the Worlds, but, hard futuristic sci fi, and especially what might be considered classic...

I am really more of a fantasy man.

I can tell I'm really going to struggle with this one - I've never attempted anything related to Alien Invasion's (bearing in mind I spelt invasion wrong whilst typing this.) Maybe I should ask around at my college, teenagers are a type of alien right? *gulp*

I used your generation for inspiration instead Aun, that era will always be an alien concept to me.

Stepping away from my pimped up shopping trolley and making sure my holster is sitting comfortable - I glare. Youngsters. In my day....
