DISCUSSION -- June 2014 75 Word Writing Challenge

Congratulations Juliana on the victory!

Muchos gracias to Anya, JonH, and Jastius for the mentions, and especially to TDZ for the vote.

It does seem like some of the interest/listing/voting followed regional lines this month, doesn't it?

Congratulations Juliana, it's well earned; you were my close second for voting!

Also, Bowler and JonH, I found your ray gun exchange in the comment section very humorous! I'm glad JonH was injured beyond repair!

Good job on the stories everyone. Looking forward to the next one!

Congrats, Juliana!! It is a terrific poem! And what a great race to the finish line!! :) Looking forward to your choices for next month's challenge!!

Ahh, A. Fare Wells, I've read about HH Holmes! Wasn't there a book a few years ago about him?

I don't know, but I'm sure there is a book or books about it. I saw it on some documentary. I think it was on PBS, but I forget.

I missed all the excitement here yesterday. Ahh, there's still cake and leftovers in the fridge.

Mmm, grilled chicken, coleslaw, corn of the cob and bicuits.

Thank you for the listings and kind words Parson and Starbeast! I greatly appreciate it!!!

You're welcome Cat's. Keep em' flying.

I'm so happy, I'm going to chase Starbeast and share the joy of RAY GUNS with my buddy. Clearly, I'll have more fun than Starbeast, but such is life. :D

Think fast! (click, click click) Hmm, maybe the battery is depleated. BZZZT! OUCH!

Awesome and creative tales again! Tough to narrow this down. But finally here are my choices:

My Long List, Short List and ***Favorite ***

9. Day of Reckoning in Tombstone – Starbeast

Also, thank you so much for the short listings, Victoria & Starbeast! I am humbled and honored.

You're mighty welcome Johnnyjet. And, thank you for including me on your great list.

Thank you to Ashleyne B Watts and Starbeast for the shortlistings. I'm going to read through and pick my winner now.

Short-listing

Starbeast - Day of Reckoning in Tombstone

You're very welcome Ratsy. And, thank you for including me on your fantastic list.

Thanks Starbeast and Johnnyjet. :)

I started by eliminating anything involving time travel or blatantly alternative history - not overjust, mayhap, but having attempted to stay within…

Which left me wit a shortish list of:- crystal haven, mosaix, Mr Orange, Perpetual Man, Remedy, Starbeast, telford, Teresa Edgerton and The Judge. I finally went for Remedy's clay army, despite the attraction of the Gatling gun, the dark snake and Bluebeard's serial polygamy.

Thank you Chrispenycate, for placing me in your awesome list. As for the gatling gun, I couldn't resist. :D

Thanks Starbeast for the shortlisting and positive comments

You're very welcome Paranoid Marvin. Stay awesome.

For those wondering, my little yarn referred to H.H. Holmes, a pharmacist who built a hotel and killed some who stayed at it in the 1800's during the World's Fair in Chicago. He would sell his victims organs and skeletons to medical schools and is regarded by some as U.S.A.'s first serial killer.

Hi A. Fare Wells

I knew who you were referring to in your true-life horror story (it made my Long List). I heard there might be a movie being made about that nut and his bizarre "hotel of horrors".

Congratulations Juliana

Congratulations to our winner. Very nicely done.

Many years ago, the late Anthony Boucher used the pseudonym "H. H. Holmes" when he was reviewing mystery novels.

Robert Bloch wrote a novel inspired by H. H. Holmes called American Gothic.

There have been several non-fiction books about Holmes, the most famous of which is probably The Devil in the White City by Erik Larson.

Congratulations, Juliana. :)

Commiserations, Bowler.

Thanks for the mentions / short lists A. Fare Wells, Anya, Juliana, Jinxo, MatterSack, Mart321, Ratsy, Chris, TDZ, Glen, Crystal and Ursa.

And an especial thanks to The Story Teller for the Vote. :)

And just asking for some turkeys....

(I expect the Chronners will all say no.)

I think it would be unfair on Parson...

...because it's... er... bound to favour laypersons.
