Secret Santa 4 Discuss/ Request

I got another 900 words done tonight! I think one more sitting and I should be able to finish the story, then an edit and I will be able to send it off just in time to not be slapped! woohoo
 
Hello all! I fear I may be a lot of the problem. I had never attempted a story this long, and so had no idea that it was going to spiral out of control as it has (it's spiralling from a word-count perspective--that's up to about 10k; the story is working out fine though, I think:)). The 1st draft is completely done, and now I'm working on the first edit. The editing has proven challenging, but also exhilirating; trying to keep all the varied elements--continuity, characterization, tenses, etc--straight in my mind for a very-longer-for-me story has been interesting!

Hope, what I hope to do is send the first half of the story to you by the end of the week; it should be edited by then. I'll finish the entire thing sometime next week, and get that off to you by the end of next week. I hope you received the excerpt I sent? :)

Hopefully by the next SS 5 I'll know a little bit more of what I am doing, and won't cause any delays at all. Looking forward, greatly, to reading the excerpts! Bye for now, CC

*twiddles fingers until tonight when Ratsy can finally try to finish his story that is no where near 10,000 words*
 
HOLD ON! I have edited out 9,957 words from my story, so I'm down to about 300--this may take awhile... :)

Actually, my editing is adding words, *sigh*. Good golly, you folks that write actual book-length stories...how do you ever keep EVERYTHING together in your minds, while editing? :)

Hey Dusty! I am afraid that any time you folks are kind enough to let me play a game with you I will likely turn out to be the problem. I mean well, but I just have trouble following rules, sometimes! :)
 
At 3598 with another hour needed to finish but I don't have the time now! ill be back at it tomorrow
 
Double Post! I am 95% done and will have mine sent off today. I hope the requester likes the story. :cool:

I've got 4 excerpts pulled and ready for the guessing thread, with one more to select and the promise of two more by tonight** so as soon as they are in and excerpts selected I'll get the guessing thread up. I think it will make it a bit harder not knowing which was written for you, on top of which I've been toying with the idea of throwing in excerpts from the spares I got (quite good stuff there!) without saying how many stories came from which author... *devilish grin* 'course if I dont have time to play with the spares and pull excerpts because I get a flood of stories... then you wouldnt have to guess who wrote how many would you *sassy wink*

All in all this has been a wonderful challenge and I'm glad that everyone participating has risen to the challenge with vigor and enthusiasm. It's an education for me to read through what you lot are sending in, and my fingers itch to be back at writing.
While I've got your ear(s) (ok technically eyes but that's nether here nor there) I just want to say I'm grateful with the patience you've given me. I knew I wouldnt have time to write this round, but I really though I'd find more time to promote this, and then I mixed up the deadlines in my head and jumped the gun in passing out assignments. Work is being drug out another week (yay paycheck, boo waking up when I'm sore and tired and want to be done and on to the next thing) and tis a good thing I have this and you to come home to and get invigorated myself by making sure that things are going smooth and that the stories I've got in are ready for the guessing thread and their recipients.

**tonight may actually bleed into what is technically known as tomorrow, there are big doings in other parts of the interwebs that may or may not keep me up late. (and if they dont, I have that beta I promised to do and keep sleeping instead of working on *slaps hand*)
 
Hand on heart, a promise to finish...and very soon! Writing for someone else really helped me...if I were writing for myself I would have quit after the first draft (if I'd even have finished that). But I've always been this way...when I'm doing something for someone else I care more about finishing than if I was just doing the thing for myself. So I shall finish my story--mainly editing (I have to write a few little bits for the second half of the story to make sure everything aligns properly with the first half), and then send it along to our Ms. Hope.

And thank you again Hope, for running such a fine SS. You were clearly remarkably busy this summer, and this must have been time consuming, so thanks much!

Very excited to see all the other story excerpts, and begin guessing! I am still not that fluent in everyone's writing style yet, so I may not guess a single one (I'm even worried that I might not guess my own story right...I've never written anything like it). (Joking of course--but just so I have this straight...we DON'T guess on our own story, is that right?? :)) I hope it's a grand weekend for everyone! CC

Me too, it's crazy. It applies to everything in life - I always make more effort for others than myself. <checks halo>

So, basically, CC, what you're saying is that you're determined to sabotage SS4, innit :D:p

I am teaching at 2 at the gym then to Oxford Circus for 2 hours class, then to a house-warming party the other side of London!

Which gives me about an hour and a half to do a speed-edit and send to Hope. :eek:

I am not divulging whether or not mine is finished.;)

most people conceal which story they wrote in the guessing by saying someone else's name or leaving it blank (if they have others they cannot guess as well.)
my method in the past (since I've always been late to the guessing thread) was to see who I had been guessed as most often and say I guessed they wrote mine as well. Unless I felt that was too bold a move, or missed the guessing all together.
The first one of these I was at work when the guessing started and by the time I got home most authors had revealed themselves and the full stories were going up.

I'm hoping the guessing will be fun on this one. Despite my best efforts to stay up, I passed out not long after posting here. Woke up in the middle of the night after a sad/bad dream (not nightmare or night terror thankfully), went for a walk to ease my emotions (nice stars out last night, always nice to walk by moonlight with a friend and some hot tea) so that I could finish sleeping (which I did) and now that I'm back up I'll get right to work on the (checks email) three that are waiting for me to pull excepts from*. (and get some laundry going, but I guess you didnt need to know that did you.)
Thread will be up as soon as all requests are in (in the form of samples sent to me that I pull excepts from or full stories turned in ready to be passed along.)
