Secret Santa 4 Discuss/ Request

<--Resolves to write a story with an instructor in it, just to confuse Phyre.

In fact, everyone should add one, now.

Happy Half-Way Point!

Glad to see everyone is processing their ideas *bribes muses with chocolate and/or beer*
@TheDustyZebra I agree, keeping things organized can be easier than writing, unless like @springs you sprint for the finish so you can go on to [win] other races. Good Luck with your Edit!

@Cat's Cradle I'm glad you are having fun with the process! An invigorating tale is a wonderful pick me up and great way to stay motivated about any other work you might be pursuing at the time.

@hopewrites is having too much fun with the new system and should get back to work... soon ;)

hmmm.... interesting..... B]CC's story has an instructor in it...> ;) See, Ratsy? I said you'd get an idea :D pH

:) I will say that my instructor is a mercenary and works for scale, and can be ready for story-insertion at a moment's notice! (He is actually a side character, and serves--as a weapons instructor surely must--as a bit of a foil for my protagonist. :))

Thanks for the kind words, Hope! This has been a lot of fun. The first draft is done Monday or Tuesday, and then I have to try and edit this thing...I've never attempted such a long edit (except for term papers in college, but that doesn't count!:)).

Hope everyone is having fun with their stories, CC

ps--I am hoping that my story invigorates, at least a little!

It'll come out in the wash, anyway, that I helped Hope out and did an extra story (I guess you will all need to know at the guessing stage...)

I had fun doing them both, very different requests and styles. It'll be interesting to see if anyone picks up the similarity in style.... :)

Of course you did springs! You are a writing machine. I have done 1700 words so far and expect it to run close to 3500 as per my usual.

Just over a week left
(I'm home from work today with a bad back. So I can pester you :p )

everyone who hasnt turned in a story yet still has my email right?
Since the 31st falls on a Sunday I may be persuaded to allow till Thursday the 4th, then send the stories out Friday after I get home from work. But I will need time to read through and tag selections of Voice for guessing, so I'd prefer if they made it to my inbox before bed time ;)

Oh, yes, that was it -- I just haven't turned in my story because I lost your email.:p

Greetings everyone! Hope, I am not sure where I should send my story when (if!) I get done? Should I 'conversation' it over to you? I don't have an e-mail address.

Okay, I hope whomever I am writing for will have a bit of time to just sit and read...my story is out of control! It's the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man of amateur fiction (at least of my little corner of the amateur fiction world)! I think it will be over 5,000 words...!! I think, Hope, I should be able to get this to you by the 4th of September, but I'm sorry, possibly not before then--my visitors from the US prevented me from getting much done, but the writing is flowing pretty good now; then, to edit & rewrite!

It has been a great writing experience, and great practice...I wouldn't have tried anything more than, say, 1,200 words, any time soon without the Secret Santa, so thank you all!

And to whomever receives my story--I promise that, even if it is not close to a professional level of writing, it will be at the least entertaining. :) See everyone soon, CC

5,000 - well done you! I hit my usual 1000-ish sweet spot for shorts. Anything more tends to grow to 70k plus.... :D

I think, looking at conversations, CC, you should be able to upload the file through that, which is a big improvement on the old pms. :)

As my (new) Finnish countrymen say, springs, kiitos! (This is pronounced very much as the words 'key-toes' are pronounced, and means thank you!)

I'll mention that if anyone is willing to delay this SS till October...of 2018, I could expand my story to 70k+, as well! :)

Oh dear....

September 4th? For some reason I had in my mind we were submitting at the end of Sept. My mistake.

Well, I am off work (luckily), so I will have the week to finish it <cough> start in earnest.

I will finish this time round, I will!

pH
*why did I drink so many mojitos yesterday*

I've also sent you my email :)
Nothing stoping you from fleshing out (or attempting to publish) anything that gets started in the SS challenges *cough meaningful look at my last SS writer cough* If I recall correctly I think some from the first and second of these workshops have been published. (If they werent published I do remember that there was delay in the voluntary reveal of the full story by some authors because the work had been submitted.)

The main point is to have fun developing voice and seeing if your fellow Chroners know your voice well enough to spot you. If you hit on something that really gets you inspired and writing, then by all means! go long and see if you cant get your moneys worth out of it. :D

Yep, my first one has been published and @alchemist has had one of his published.

Actually, mine this time has appeared on the internet and been tweeted, (long story - I'll tell it at the end) which was a complete accident. I haven't linked to it, though, so don't think the word is out there... ;) whew.
