DISCUSSION -- July 2014 300-word Writing Challenge (#14)

I liked the TV series far better than the movie. I never could get into Jeff Bridges as that character.

Victoria, thank you - once again - for your comments. Very kind.

Alright then. The title of mine is from something. A virtual cream tea to anybody who gets it.

Ah, it was so ... um... odd, that I assumed it was a quote from a song lyric or something of the kind, but I'm hopeless at them, so no cream tea for me.

TJ, You're in good company - even if I say so myself - as I immediately started humming Nina Simone's Feeling Good song even though the lyrics aren't the same (fine/good).

I'm not a garibaldi sort of fellow - can I have a red Lindor, please?

Well I'll add some early comments about Phyrebrat's entry, which I really enjoyed: I found that a second read brought out a really nice handful of subtle gems missed in a first read. I like it when a short story keeps giving! :)

I hadn't taken that your character was bi, springs. I thought that their "loving well," was a different love for each other, and especially Tom, born out of their companionship through horrific ordeals... I don't want to goad you into the mod-wrath territory though ;)

Thanks, Remedy! I'm very pleased you liked it enough to read it twice.

I haven't read Springs' as I have had erratic access to the internet until this week, although I'd read some stories from both pages. I'll see if I click the bi-ness on first read.

Not only did I notice that about Springs, the name Tom and Jayne reminded me of Thomas Jane and after that they became one entity to me

gdoc -- The author creates a dark and moody story which will haunt the reader for a very long time.

Perpetual Man -- This mysterious and poetic tale fires the imagination with its sweeping vision.

mosaix -- Like a Mobius strip, the plot of this clever story winds around itself and traps the delighted reader.

Flyerman11 -- With a great deal of insight into human emotions, this meditative soliloquy manages to be both nostalgic and prophetic.

Brev -- By creating an extraordinary narrator, the author peers deep into the darkest places within the heart.

Starbeast -- By mixing bits and pieces of popular culture, the author creates something fresh and surprising.

AmyCook -- By viewing everything the narrator sees through the veil of her sorrow, the author creates a heartbreakingly real character.

jastius -- The author weaves an enchanting tale in the most difficult of all genres, science fantasy.

Recently, I was triggered into re-experiencing this event and it made me moody for a week or so. This moody re-experiencing had a big impact on the writing of my story.

I admire your strength, Ashleyne. God is watching over you. :)

Thank you for the wonderful review Victoria.

Ok, my story is written, and I'm just going to sleep on it and decide on a title tomorrow.

Only just remembered that July was the next 300 challenge. Well done me. Less than a day to think of something and write it up! And even less time than that because I am at a matinee theatre production today. So not long at all :(

Haha, that would be amazing.

I am going to see Martin Freeman in Shakespeare's Richard III (it is actually one of my intensive Shakespeare texts so another "proper" reason to buy a really good ticket heeheehee!) I swear I spend more money on theatre tickets than anything else. :)

I am hoping that something may come to me on the train, or after the performance. I doubt it will be very polished but I WILL enter, I swear!

What a terrific group of stories so far this Challenge! Well done, everyone! Voting will take some real thought...the writing is at such a high level, throughout!

Kylara, I hope you have time to post an entry! The play sounds really interesting! And Dusty, as always looking forward to your story. Good luck everyone!!

I don't wish to get into hot water, but I'm designating my entry in the 14th 300-word challenge as my 14000th post post.

(You may think that there's no rhyme and reason for this desecration, but you'd only be right about the rhyme: the alternative was an as-yet-unwritten sonnet.)

Sounds logical, efficient, and intriguing, UM! :)

My word...14,000 posts! How is such a thing possible? Congratulations! I do not suspect I will be there until, perhaps, 2026!

ps--how cool! I just saw your count go from 13,999 to 14,000! I feel like a wildlife photographer who has just snapped the photo of a lifetime!! Perhaps some rare, elusive bear! :)

Just when I thought nothing would form beyond wisps of plots-to-be, something arrived.

*contemplates dragooning Ursa, since without a Critiques piece, we'll be Melanie-choly...*

Ahem.

Anyhow, as something of a recent record, I actually had a Challenge story written by lunchtime (though it was rather a late lunch...), albeit substantially over word-count. After a few hours of pruning and prinking I've had enough of the wretched thing, so it's up, even though I can't think of a proper title. (I tried ratsy's for size but it didn't fit.)

Wow Dusty, you actually did it and pulled it off like a champ! ahha Well done. :)

What'd I tell ya? :D

Somehow it all just fell together.

Do you suppose springs will mind that it wasn't a "cameo"? :p
