Discussion -- August 2014 75-Word Writing Challenge

Lenny: Wonderful story about the need for smoothies and the length someone will go for that fruity treat. The ending was comical and dark and brought a smile to this readers face.

The third set of reviews is on the way… Now!

Boneman: A tale of performing evil acts to protect people from evil. This tale of hope ends ambiguously with the imminent awaking of a nefarious king.

Thanks Azzagorn. When I see the title, either some brief idea pops into my head, and I flesh that out, or I stare at the blank screen until one arrives... More of a seat-of-the-pants writer in the 75worder, tha a logistically planned scrivener

Thanks for the comments, Azzagorn. :)

Just to say - it's been on the 300 discussion thread but that mightn't be seen by all now the comps over - we're having a fun anonymous challenge thread in the workshop.

The theme is - That Old Chestnut
Genre is speculative, sf, fantasy
Word limit is 100.

It'd be fab to get some of the regulars in and see if anyone's style is spotted. :) if you have a story send it to me via a conversation-thingy and I'll pop it up on the thread. :) jo

Howdy howdy.

I dropped by to post my entry. I can't wait to read the other stories.

Be back when I can.

(leaps into Batmobile and drives off)

Leaving me here on the roadside did allow me time to read some of the posts. A theme that has been twisted in the cynical hands of Chrons members - and I really liked some of them. I always think there has to be a good opening line but more importantly is the last line when 75 words slot together and already there are a few that pull that trick off really well.

Thumb out, more in hope than expectation, I wait and see if I can rustle up a lift for myself.

Good new stories, everyone. And thank you for the nice review, Azzagorn...thank you for taking the time to do reviews! It must be quite a time consuming task, but they really are fun to read.

Just wanted to send thoughts out to Starbeast...hope the home repairs are going well, and nearing an end! Dug your story this month, SB--love that there have been a number of stories with the main characters screaming this month! Since it's fiction (and no one is actually being hurt, or scared, etc) I will say that for some reason in these comedy stories, just seeing the way writers actually spell their characters' screams seems fun to me...I am never quite sure if I am capturing a character's true level of horror/terror/fear when I spell out a scream. Starbeast, I like what you did with it! :)

I posted my story. I must say that once again we've taken a theme and twisted it into all kinds of shapes. Stories in the universe of Soylant Green to the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Universe. What a weird and wonderful crew we have here.

Hi Parson, I really like your story! The ending was terrific, really moving; it was a great resolution to the piece, well done! CC

Yes, it makes for an interesting dilemma. If someone does wrong but doesn't know what he's doing at the time, it's a legal loophole -- but if he does wrong knowingly and then forgets having ever done it, does that amount to the same thing?

A very thought provoking, interesting take on guilt and mental deterioration, Parson.
